IIT Bombay Admission Process 2026
IIT Bombay admission process is a multi-step process. Candidates have to first apply for a UG or PG programme.Candidates need to apply on the official website of exam conducting body for a few courses.
Step 1: IIT Bombay Application Process 2026
Students interested in getting admission to IIT Bombay can submit the online application form for the course-specific entrance exam or college, depending on the course they wish to get into.

Step 2: IIT Bombay UniveINRity Selection Criteria & Release of Merit List
After completion of the registration process, applicants need to go through the course-based entrance exam followed by other selection rounds (if applicable). Candidates must score equal or above IIT Bombay cutoff in the accepted entrance exam for admission. - Refund the Full fees (Academic fee + Hostel fee) after deduction of processing charge of INR 1000 and Mess Advance (if paid) for candidates withdrawing /cancelling the admission was valid until Jul 10, 2026.
- Refund 50% of the fees (Academic fee) after deduction of processing charge (INR 1000) + Hostel Fees Paid + Mess Advance of INR 27,000 (if paid) for candidates withdrawing /cancelling the admission during the period Jul 11, 2026 to Jul 26, 2026.
- Only Refundable Deposit (Academic fee of INR 10,000 and Mess Security Depost of INR 5000 (if paid)) for candidates withdrawing / cancelling the admission on or after Jul 27, 2026.
- The Hostel Coordinating Unit will refund Hostel Fees after deducting the INR 1000 (processing fee) and INR 3500 or part thereof for staying in the hostel for up to 30 days.
- Mess Advance will be refunded by the Hostel Manager after deducting the charges for actual food consumption at the hostel. (The same “Refund Policy” is applicable to all those whose admission is cancelled by the Institute due to non-fullfillment of eligibility criteria).

IIT Bombay offers an MDes course for a duration of two years spread across four semesters. Yes, IIT Bombay conducts Common Entrance Exam for Design or CEED for admission to MDes programme. It is a national-level entrance exam conducted in online mode. It is a three-hour exam conducted once in a year. Candidates shortlisted based on CEED rank have to also appear for IDC written test conducted by the institute. The shortlisted aspirants are further require to come for an interview round for final selection.
The total tuition fee for IIT Bombay MDes is INR 2.7 Lacs as per an unofficial source. Students belonging to SC/ ST/ PwD category or a child of institution staff are exempted from paying the tuition fee. There is a concessional and a non-concessional fee for candidates belonging to General/ EWS/ OBC-NCL category. The concessional is offered on tuition fee. Candidates apart from the tuition fee are required to pay examination fee, medical fee, etc. Students not staying in hostel are exempted from the payment of hostel fee.
Apart from the course fee, candidates also have to pay a registration fee of INR 300 for General/ OBC Male and INR 150 for SC/ ST/ PwD and female candidates.
IIT Bombay admission to MDes programme is entrance-based. Candidates have to follow the below steps to get a seat in the MDes programme:
Step 1: Candidates meeting the eligibility requirements have to pay an application fee to register for MDes course.
Step 2: IIT Bombay selects candidates for MDes programme based on CEED score. After qualifying CEED, the institute releases a category-wise merit list for each stream. Eligible candidates are required to appear for an IDC (written test) and an interview round.
Step 3: After the completion of the selection rounds, IITB releases a final merit list. Selected candidates will then have to appear for the verification of documents in order to complete the admission.
If any candidate is unable to receive the OTP while filling the IIT Bombay application, they should try resending or reloading the sent OTP. Wait for atleast 15-20 minutes or change the current netword settings. If this does not fix the problem of OTP not getting loaded, try using a different Email Id or phone no.

IIT Bombay admission to BDes course includes various steps. Starting with registration to entrance exam, counselling and seat allotment. Before jumping to application, candidates must also check their eligibility. Any candidate who have completed Class 12 can apply for BDes course.
Step 1: Registration
Candidates need to apply online for BDes course with an application fee of INR 3,800 for open and INR 1,900 for reserved category. The common application form will be available through the IIT Bombay Admissions Portal.
Step 2: Selection
The selection to BDes course is based on UCEED rank. A merit list is prepared based on UCEED rank of the candidates.
Step 3: Counselling

SJM School of Management Endowment Scholarship

Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarship
Merit-cum-Means scholarship is awarded to a maximum of 25% of sanctioned Intake of M.Sc. students. For these scholarships, academic merit as well as means is taken into account to determine eligibility.

IIT Bombay offers merit-based scholarships. The scholarship is offered based on the performance of the students in the semester exam. Approximately 20% of the students are beneficiaries of the various scholarships are from various endowment funds. Additionally, a few other scholarships are available centrally from IIT-B. The average and median packages offered during IIT Bombay placements 2024 stood at INR 23.5 LPA and INR 17.92 LPA, respectively. Students holding Bachelor's degree with 60 percent marks (55 percent for reserved category) are eligible to apply. Eligible students should visit the IIT Bombay website to fill the application form. The selection is through GATE or MAAT exam followed by an interview round.
Candidates holding a bachelor’s degree (BA/ BCom or other degrees) or a four-year BA, BS, BTech or an earlier postgraduate degrees such as MA, MSc, etc. with a minimum of 60% aggregate for GN/ EWS/ OBC (NC) and 55% aggregate for SC/ ST/ PwD can apply for MA by Research. Aspirants shall keep the documents for verification ready at the time of admission as well.
The total seat intake for MA by Research is 20. This seat intake is as per the 2022-2023 sanctioned strength. Additionally, the seats are reserved for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)/Other Backward Class Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL)/Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwD).
