Candidates seeking PhD admission are required to appear for an entrance test conducted by SRM IST. This test is conducted via CBT mode. This test is followed by a presentation and PI round conducted by the related department. However, those who have qualified for UGC NET (including JRF)/CSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GATE or teacher fellowship holders are exempted from writing the deemed university-level entrance exam for admission.

SRM IST Chennai 2024 January admission procedure has been concluded. Tabulated below are the important dates:

SRM Institute of Technology Kattankulathur offers PhD at the doctoral level. The course is offered to three category students, namely full-time, part-time and part-time external candidates. While the duration for full-time course range from three to five years, the duration for part-time course range from three to six years. SRM University offers PhD in 60 specialisations. Additionally, Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT-Phase II initiated by the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) of the Government of India allots two full-time PhD seats to the institute.

A range of entrance exam results are accepted by the SRM Institute of Hotel Management (SRM IHM) for admission to its undergraduate and graduate programs. The exact entrance exam that each programme requires to be admitted will differ from programme to program. Undergraduate programs like B.Sc. in Hotel Management, B.Sc in Culinary Science, B.Sc. in Hospitality Studies, B.Sc in Travel and Tourism Management, and B.Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Administration consider the NCHMCT JEE exams.

For Postgraduate Programs like M.Sc. in Hospitality Management, M.Sc. in Culinary Arts, and MBA in Hospitality Management often consider the scores of CAT, MAT, XAT, and TANCET. SRM IHM will also take into consideration the applicant's employment history, extracurricular activities, and academic record in addition to the aforementioned factors when making an admissions decision. Even if a candidate's entrance exam score is marginally below the cutoff, admission to the programme is more likely to occur if they have a strong academic record and participate in relevant extracurricular activities.

SRM University conducts SRM JEE exam for admission to Engineering courses. The university does not accept scores for any other entrance exams. Also, direct admission is not valid either. Candidates are shortlisted for BTech and M.Tech based on their past academic records and scores obtained in the entrance exam. 

To sit for the respective exams, candidates must apply for the exams priorly and make a preparation strategy to ace the exam. 

SRM Institute of Science and Technology or SRM IST (formerly known as SRM University Chennai) was established in 1985 and is located in Kattankulathur, Chennai. It is considered to be a good college as it is ranked 1001-1200 by the QS World University Rankings 2025 under the 'World University' category. Further,  SRM University Chennai Rankings include 4th rank by Outlook 2023 under the Engineering category,  4th rank by Times 2023 for BBA, and 11th rank by NIRF 2024 under the Architecture category.

SRM University Chennai offers Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) courses at the UG level in the Medical stream through NEET UG scores followed by round-wise NEET Counselling. As per SRM University Chennai cutoff 2024, the last-round closing rank was 195886 for admission to the MBBS course. The Round 1 closing rank for the same stood at 637582 for the students belonging to the General AI quota. 

For BDS admission, the NEET UG first and last-round closing ranks were 980273 and 980273, respectively.
