Admissions to some courses at DTU is entrance based, while for some the admission is merit-based. The merits obtained by a student in their last academic course of study are a major determinant of whether they get admitted to the institute or not. Besides, the entrance exams and academic records, students are also subjected to selection rounds.

 

One of the most popular courses at Delhi Technological University is the BTech programme, and students are accepted on the basis of their JEE Main scores. DTU also accepts admissions on the basis of a student’s score at the national level as well as university-level exams. MBA is another popular exam at DTU, the institute also accepts scores in entrance exams like CAT, MAT, CMAT  etc. There are different entrance tests and eligibility criteria for students getting admission to different courses at DTU. The institute offers admissions in UG, PG and Doctorate courses.

DTU does accept a wide range of entrance exams for its different courses. However, it does not conduct any exam on its own to determine a student’s eligibility for admission.

Entrance Exams Accepted by DTU

Admissions to some courses at DTU is entrance based, while for some the admission is merit-based. The merits obtained by a student in their last academic course of study are a major determinant of whether they get admitted to the institute or not. Besides, the entrance exams and academic records, students are also subjected to selection rounds. Listed below are some of the courses that the institute offers and the entrance exams/ eligibility criteria for the courses available at DTU.

Eligibility Criteria: A candidate must have secured at least 50% in their 12th standard.

BBA

Entrance Exam: No entrance is required.

M.Tech

Entrance Exam: GATE

Eligibility Criteria: A candidate must have passed with at least 60% in a relevant UG degree.

LLM.Des

Entrance Exam: CEED

Eligibility Criteria:  A candidate must have passed with at least 55% in a relevant 4-year UG degree.

MBA

Entrance Test:  CAT, MAT and CMAT

Eligibility Criteria: A candidate must have passed with at least 60% in any UG degree.

B.Tech

Entrance Test: JEE Main, DASA UG and JAC Delhi

Eligibility Criteria: A candidate must have secured at least 60% in their 12th standard in the science field.

MA in Economics

Entrance Test: No entrance test is required.

Eligibility Criteria: A candidate must have passed with at least 50% in the relevant UG degree.

BA (Hons) in Economics

Entrance Test: no entrance test is required

Eligibility Criteria: A candidate must have passed with at least 50% in the 12th standard.

PhD

Entrance Test: Passing any university-level entrance test

Eligibility Criteria: A candidate must have passed with at least 55% in the relevant PG degree.

MSc

Entrance Test: University-level entrance test

Eligibility Criteria: A candidate must have passed with at least 50% in the relevant UG or BSc degree.

Selection rounds at DTU

Selection rounds are an important determinant of a student’s admission to DTU. these selection rounds include Personal interviews and Group discussions. Group discussions help analyse a candidate on multiple parameters including their communication, confidence, leadership, logical skills and teamwork qualities. While as through a personal interview, a student gets a more personal view of the vision and expectations of the college. The Personal interview and the group discussions are a vital part of the selection process. A candidate’s eligibility is assessed through their entrance test scores as well as their performance in the selection rounds. In order to get into DTU, a student must also be prepared for a selection round.

Q:   What can students do after JEE Main session 2 result?
A: 

After JEE session 2 is completed, only those candidates who are aiming for IITs need to start preparing for JEE Advanced after clearing JEE Main. Those who are above the 98th percentile should start preparing for JEE Advanced as soon as possible. Those below this, between the 95th and 98th percentile, should focus on attempting more mock tests and previous year question papers so that they have a better chance of clearing JEE Advanced

Q:   Do I need 75% to get into DTU?
A: 

For admission to most of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered at Delhi Technological University, students need to score 50% to 60% minimum total in their last qualifying degree or course to be eligible. A course-wise list of eligibility criteria for DTU admission is mentioned in the table:

Q:   Can I get into DTU without giving JEE?
A: 

No, candidates cannot get admission to DTU without appearing for JEE Main as the DTU BTech counselling is done through JAC Delhi. The basic criteria for admission to BTech is appearing for JEE Mains. To get into DTU, candidates must score decent marks or at least around 220 or above marks in JEE Mains. The only way to get into DTU without appearing for JEE Main is by taking a lateral entry admission to BTech second year. In order to do this, candidates must complete a Polytechnic course of two years and then appear for an entrance exam (not JEE Main but this exam will give you entry in DTU's second year.

Q:   Does DTU accept Class 12 marks?
A: 

Yes, Delhi Technological University accepts only Class 12 scores for admission to the BBA and BA (Economics) courses offered by it at the undergraduate levels. While admission to all the other UG and PG courses is subject to national-level entrance exams and couselling process, there courses offer direct merit-based admission to the students. Q:   Who is eligible for the BDes at DTU?
A: 

At the UG level, Delhi Technological University also offers a four-year BDes programme in Design. Interested candidates can apply online on the official admission portal of DTU. Admisison to BDes is subject to a valid score in the DTU.4 Followed by the UCEED exam, the institute releases merit lists with the names of the shortlisted candidates. More details about the DTU BDes course are as follows:

Eligibility: Twelve years of school education with Science/ Commerce/ Arts or a three-year Diploma recognised by AICTE

Q:   Can I get DTU at 93 percentile for MBA admission?
A: 

DTU offers a two-year full-time MBA programme via its own campus, Delhi School of Management (DSM) and University School of Management and Entrepreneurship (USME). Delhi Technological University accepts CAT scores for admission to the MBA course. As per DTU cut off 2024, the overall CAT percentile Cutoff was 85 for the General category student. So, considering the past year cutoff trends, candidates with 93 CAT percentile can easily get admission to MBA course at DTU.

The drop out rate at DTU keeps on changing. Right now it is not very high but there are various reforms that DTU is bringing which may or may not be liked by students. Overall, it is one of the top universities where students secure good placement opportunities.

DTU and IIT delhi are both topmost universities available in India. The placements given to these university students are also good. The infra is quite good for both the universities, hence the comparison between them is not possible. In the end, it depends on students what is best for them.
