- The IIT JAM 2026 counselling registration is now over for admission to the MSc course. Students can submit their choices till May 6, 2026, with the first admission list to be declared tentatively on May 25, 2026.
- The CSAB Special Counselling 2025 Round 3 has concluded with the announcement of the seat allotment results for admission to BE/BTech courses.
- The GATE COAP 2026 registration link is active for admission to ME/MTech/PhD programmes. The GATE COAP 2026 round 1 window to view offers and make a decision will be opened on May 11, 2026 (10 AM).
- The JEE Main 2026 session 2 result has been announced on the official website for admission to the BTech, BArch and BPlan courses.

- Beginning within the mentorship of NIT Silchar for 2 years, NIT Nagaland is known to be among 10 newly approved NITs in the year 2009.
- For the first 2 years, NIT Nagaland operated from the campus of NIT Assam.
- The Institute began its academic year in 2010, with permanent land allocation by January 2012.

NIT Nagaland Admission Process and Important Dates 2025
NIT Nagaland admission process is entrance-based. BTech is offered at UG level while MSc and MTech programmes are offered at PG level. BTech admission in the college is entrance based with the college accepting JEE Main scores.

NIT Nagaland has a sanction of around 200 seats for admission in BTech programme. For admission at MSc, NIT Nagaland offers 20 seats with two specialisations and 2 years of course duration. The Institute offers 66 seats for admission at MTech including the 4 specialisations within the programme. The Institute also offers PhD in various specialisations along side the UG and PG level programmes.

- Central Library: The Central Library of NIT Nagaland has a collection of over 9,500 books in streams such as Engineering, Basic Sciences, Management, Humanities, and others. The library also has more than 1,400+ e-books on Electrical, Electronics, Communication, Civil, Mechanical, and Computer Science along with non-book materials such as NPTEL videos, CDs/CD-ROMs, etc.
- Hostel: NIT Nagaland houses six. At present, there are four 64-seated boys’ hostels, one 56-seated girls’ hostel, and a 32-seated PG boys hostel on the NIT Nagaland campus. NIT Nagaland also provides good quality mess facilities (Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian) for all students and a few faculties and staff.

NIT Nagaland embraces inclusivity and cultural diversity alongside providing platforms to foster various other skillsets apart from academia. The Institute conducts various activities that are cultural driven such as Fresher's Day, Cultural Day and Euphonics and Tune to Tap, Ekarikthin, Farewell etc. NIT Nagaland also organises various technical events such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics ). NIT Nagaland is not a deemed University. It is an autonomous Indian Government College. It is a fully funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It was established under an Act of Indian Parliament. The establishment of NIT Nagaland was included in the Eleventh five- year plan of the Indian Government (2007-2012) for giving technical education to the students of the state of Nagaland.
The eligibility criteria for NIT Nagaland is getting atleast 75% in class 12 ( 65% for SC/ST/PwD) and cracking JEE mains. For scoring a good rank in JEE Main a candidate must:
- Segregate topics and work diligently and complete them in time.
- Prioritise high weightage topics
- Prepare proper notes and end time revision techniques
- Practice is the key
- Take mock tests because ghere is negative marking in the exam.

No, you can not get into NIT Nagaland's BTech programme without having appeared in JEE Mains. The main selection criteria of the course is scores obtained in the JEE Mains exam only, hence, admission without it is not possible. Participating in the JoSAA counselling is also necessary.
