NID DAT 2023 Student Reaction - The National Institute of Design (NID) conducted the NID DAT (2023) Prelims exam on January 8, 2023 (from 10 am - 1 pm). The initial reactions and analysis are out for the NID DAT 2023 (Prelims exam). The question paper for DAT Prelims was lengthy, but easier compared to previous editions. Consequently, the DAT Prelims cut-off could be higher. The cut-off projections from students who appeared at the exam are pretty wide ranging from 67-80; and even 90 in a few outlier cases. A clear picture will be out soon.

- Creative drawing question - An image was provided with sign boards waster here, but people were still throwing their waste there. The candidate has to find three creative solutions to the problem.
- 8-9 passage based questions were asked. Questions were mostly, with 2-3 a bit tricky but doable.
- The candidate is asked to draw a sequential drawing, for instance combing your hair, combing your nail, or how to sharpen your pencil.
- Expected cut-off for NID DAT 2023 (Prelims): The cut-off as per some students could go up to around 90

As per one student, the paper was lengthy!
Hat, and muffler allowed(not) inside the exam hall in one center
As per Shreya, candidates in her center were not allowed hats and mufflers inside the exam hall. However, as per Yiji they were allowed to wear these items in their exam hall.
The studio test and personal interview for M.Des DAT Mains are conducted on the same and in some cases different days. Therefore the candidate has to consult their DAT Mains admit to confirm their studio test and interview schedule.
NID DAT Mains 2026 exam for the B. Des and M.Des programme will be conducted in 17 cities. NID DAT 2026 exam was conducted on December 21, 2025 and application was closed on December 01, 2025.
There was contention regarding NID DAT 2023 Cut-off.
As per Akash cut-off for general would be 80, while another candidate (who goes by the username chota bheem on Telegram) said the cut-off would be around 67.

Sidhant Akira, another candidate, feels the cut-off would be higher than 67 given the paper was pretty easy.
A majority of students are saying the paper was easier compared to previous editions.

Detailed NID DAT 2023 exam analysis to be OUT soon.
The candidate needs to report for the exam at 8 am. Gates closing time is 9.30 am.
The B.Des exam will be held from 10 am - 1 pm; meanwhile, the M.Des exam will be held from 10 am - 12.30 am.
The DAT Prelims for the B.Des programme will be conducted in a paper-and-pencil/pen mode. The question paper may incude both textual and visual questions. Other details like duration of the exam, marking scheme, etc. will be published in the DAT Prelims admit card.
The DAT Prelims exam for the M.Des programme will be conducted offline and include a mix of objective and subjective questions. The paper will have a total of 100 questions.
Candidates who get shortlisted based on their DAT Prelims scores for the M.Des programme has to next appear in DAT Mains, which comprises a Studio Test and Interview. The Personal Interview is conducted after the Studio Test and carries a weightage of 30%. The interview will be conducted by a panel, which may include experts from industries/academics. The purpose of the interview is to assess the general awareness, extracurricular activities, academics, and the field of interest of the candidate. It is mandatory for candidates to appear in the Personal Interview or else the candidate will not be included in the final merit list.
The National Institute of Design (NID) has released the schedule for NID DAT 2024 (Mains).
The National Institute of Design (NID) will conduct the counseling registration for NID DAT 2024 for the B.Des programme on May 29, 2024. B.Des candidates who are shortlisted for counseling will have to submit campus preferences as part of the registration process. The campus entry must be in the order of priority. Also one has to enter maximum options to improve one's chances of admission. The allotment of seats to the B. Des programme will be announced tentatively in the 4th week of May 2024. Seat allotment will be based on the NID DAT 2024 merit rank and campus preference opted by the candidate. M.Des candidates are not required to submit any campus preferences, and the seat allotment is solely based on merit ranks.

If there were any clashes of the interview dates with the college/ university exam, then candidates could inform the NID before February 23, 2026. Candidates needed to attach a copy of the timetable attested by the principal and a letter from the principal confirming that the examination dates clash

NID Studio Test for M.Des carries 40% of wieghtage and Interview carries 60% wieghtage. More emphasis is given on the interview by NID.

No, there is no negative marking in the NID Studio Test. Candidates will be evaluated based on their thinking and creative skills. Studio Test will carry 40% of the total Marks for the NID Mains Exam.

Yes, NID Studio Exam is a bit tough because it will check your creativity and imagination. You can learn some formulas here and apply them to get the answer. The main objective is to evaluate technical skills and critical thinking skills. So, it is said to be a bit tough.

It is not at all necessary to take coaching to get a good rank in NID Entrance Exam. It is because the entrance exam will test creative, drawing, and innovative skills of the candidate. National Institute of Design (NID) will release the NID DAT 2026 admission cut-off for the B.Des and M.Des programmes at the time of seat allotment, around May-June 2026. The cut-off will be released as the rank and score of the last candidate admitted to the M.Des program.

The National Institute of Design (NID) will conduct the Studio Test for the B. Des program in April 2026. The Studio Test will be conducted offline. Note that B. Des candidates are not required to appear in any interview, unlike the M.Des applicants. Admit cards for the Studio Test will be released a few days in advance.
On the day of the Studio Test, the candidate had to report at the exam center with the admit card and a valid photo id proof. The Studio Test (or that Mains) is the 2nd stage of the two-stage NID that admission process. The final results of NID DAT 2026 is prepared by considering the performance of the candidate in DAT Mains and DAT Prelims.
