NID Exam Analysis 2024 for M.Des course

The NID DAT 2024 (Prelims) exam was conducted on December 24, 2023. Here we bring you the paper analysis, expected cut-off, student reaction, and much more.

The exam analysis for NID DAT (Prelims) 2024 is now OUT for the B.Des program. 

Our representatives at shiksha.com visited the NID DAT 2024 exam centers and interacted with the test takers to get insights into the exam, including the difficulty level, expected cut-off, types of questions asked, and whether the question paper was lengthy.

Note that the B.Des DAT Mains exam was conducted from 10 am - 1 pm on December 24, 2023. 

The National Institute of Design (NID) conducts the NID DAT entrance exam for admission to the B.Des and M.Des courses.

• According to candidates who appeared in the DAT Prelims exam, the NID DAT question paper contained a few surprises, which is the norm for the entrance exam and is designed to test the intellectual ability of the students. 
• Overall, most of the questions were easy and can be solved with a little bit of effort if the candidate did some decent preparation.
• As per some students, the paper was lengthy. 
• The overall difficulty level was above average. But note that Prasasthi, who appeared for "Textile" said that the overall difficulty level of the exam was 8 out of 10. 
• The expected cut-off can be around 40-45 in "Product". 
• Note that DAT Prelims - Part A was 15 minutes, while Part B was 135 minutes long. There were 9 questions asked in Part B. 
• When asked about the importance of coaching, test takers were of the opinion that self-preparation is sufficient for NID.
• Paper I had questions from General Knowledge and Reasoning. There were questions on Sustainable Development and the G20 summit. 
• The subjective paper had questions on posture drawing on slow fashion, conscious buying, etc. 
• Accoring to Prasasthi, if any individual is from a design background, they can skip coaching classes. But if the candidate is not from a design background, then coaching might be useful. She also suggested reading a lot of GK and staying updated with current affairs.
• Another test taker, Nidhi, said that the overall difficulty level was easy-to-moderate. She predicted that the cut-off will be high around 70-80 out of 100. Both papers were of moderate difficulty level. A few questions were related to northern pole start and branding and log design. Most of the questions were on weaving. In the paper 2 questions were on features of mobile phones, and posture drawing in a rural background set-up.

What after DAT Prelims?

Candidates who qualify DAT Prelims have to next appear in DAT Mains. The candidate can check their qualifying in the DAT Prelims result sheet. 

The FINAL result of NID DAT 2024 will be prepared by giving weightage to DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

Declaration of DAT Prelims results

The National Institute of Design will declare the results of DAT Prelims (M.Des) on February 16, 2024. Meanwhile, results for the B.Des program will be announced on March 28, 2024.
