NIFT admission process for BDes course is conducted in three steps. Here, candidates need to appear for a Creative Ability Test (CAT), General Ability Test (GAT) and Situation Test. In NIFT Situation Test aspirants are evaluated on parameters such as – Conceptualisation Skills, Creative use of materials provided, Innovative ideas, Composition of elements, Colour scheme, Aesthetic appeal, Working methodology, Overall presentation, Neatness.

Anmol earlier spoke to Shiksha about his prep strategy for NIFT Entrance Exam 2018 and in this interview he throws light on how he prepared for the NIFT Situation Test and his experience of appearing for the material handling exam conducted by NIFT in order to shortlist aspirants for admissions.

Q. Did you take any coaching for NIFT Situation Test?

A.

I joined DQ labs for both NIFT.

Q. How did you prepare for the Situation Test round?

A.

At my coaching centre we practiced extensively to get ourselves familiarised with materials. I also watched some YouTube videos to learn some techniques about working with cardboard, paper, wire etc. I timed myself and attempted practice tests that were administered by DQ labs. The feedback given by the faculty helped me a lot in preparing for the Situation Test.

Q. Could you explain the entire process that you went through in the NIFT Situation Test?

A.

The test venue for me was the NIFT Bangalore campus. We were made to sit in rows in the examination hall. The materials to be used were kept on our respective tables.

The materials provided were cardboard; mount board, pastel paper, beads, wire, bamboo sticks, tracing paper, and some jute rope.

After the initial formalities, the question paper was given to us. We were to choose between two questions.

Question 1: Design a water container for an astronaut or a marathon runner.

Question 2: Design a workspace for an artist, a fashion designer or for a dancer.

In my situation test I decided to create a model for the workspace of a pole dancer. I ensured that I used all the materials and had an interesting write-up that explained my ideas.

I made a conscious effort to choose a question that not many people would attempt.

Q. What did you do after appearing for the situation test round?

A.

I was happy that my situation test went well and I spent the day relaxing at home.

Q. Which NIFT campus do you intend to join?

A.

I intend on either joining NIFT Mumbai or NIFT Delhi.
