Candidates seeking admission to the B.Des and M.Des courses at the NIFTs must appear in a Creative Ability Test (CAT). The Creative Ability Test will evaluate the creative and drawing skills of the candidate. Importantly, CAT carries a hefty 50% weightage for B.Des. So, here we bring you a list of questions asked in the NIFT CAT exam in the previous editions for practice and to provide key insights.

NIFT Entrance Exam Questions Asked in NIFT CAT Previous Years Papers

The NTA is expected to conduct the written exams for NIFT 2026 in the second week of February 2026. NTA will release the detailed exam notification on its admission portal. NIFT 2026 written exams will comprise the CAT and GAT. While GAT is common for all courses, only B.Des and M.Des candidates must take the CAT. NIFT 2025 scores will be considered for admission to the undergraduate and postgraduate design programs offered at NIFT campuses. UG programs offered at NIFT include Bachelor of Design (BDes) and Bachelor of Fashion Technology (BFTech), whereas PG courses on offer at NIFT include Master of Design (MDes), Master of Fashion Technology (MFTech), and Master of Fashion Management (MFM).

For the B.Des program, the NIFT CAT carries 50% weightage, whereas for the M.Des program, the CAT is worth 40% weightage. Given the importance of the CAT, the candidate must pay special attention to the written exam, including solving sample papers for the NIFT 2026 CAT.

Q:   Can students get direct admission at NIFT Jodhpur?
A:

Direct admission is not possible at the National Institute of Fashion Technology NIFT Jodhpur. Candidates must follow the eligibility criteria to apply for admission to several courses at the National Institute of Fashion Technology. The eligibility criteria for the admission to undergraduate courses is passed a three or four-year Diploma recognised by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) or to pass Class 12 from a recognised board or the State Board of Technical Education. The accepted entrance exam is NIFT Entrance Exam and others.

Q:   Is admission to NIFT Kangra entrance based or merit-based?

Admission to NIFT Kangra is entrance based for the UG and PG programmes. 

NIFT Kangra admits students on the basis of entrance and other admission rounds.
Step 1: Applicants must first pass the "written test," also referred to as the NIFT entrance exam.
Stage 2: Candidates who made it through the first round take the situation test. The overall outcomes of both phases are examined in order to make the choice.

The NIFT entrance exam, sometimes referred to as the "written test," is the first requirement for candidates seeking a master's degree or a UG degree. Q:   What is the cutoff of NIFT Chennai for 2025 admission?
A:

NIFT Chennai cutoff 2025 has been released for different categories of students belonging to the General AI quota. Considering the Round 1 cutoff, the closing ranks for General AI category students varied between 130 and 1420. The most sought-after course for admission with the lowest cutoff rank of 130 was Master of Fashion Management (MFM). For other courses and specialisations, the cutoff ranks are tabulated below:

The application process for NIFT Chennai is completely online. Candidates have to apply for via the official NIFT Admissions website. For admission to the NIFT programmes, candidates are required to appear for the NIFT entrance exam. First candidates have to register and create a unique id. Fill the application from and submit all the required documents. And before submitting the application form pay the application fee. 

Q:   Are admission dates out for BDes admission at NIFT Chennai?
A:

Yes, admission dates for BDes admission at NIFT Chennai is out for 2024. Admission to the BDes programme is based The National Institute of Technology (NIFT) entrance exam. AS per the NIFT's official website, the written tests for the NIFT 2024 exam will be held tentatively in the 1st week of February 2024. The written tests comprise a General Ability Test (GAT) and a Creative Ability Test (CAT). GAT is mandatory for all candidates, but CAT is only required for B. Des and M. Des candidates. 

The GAT test will be considered in a computer-based mode, whereas the CAT will be offline based. Note that scores of the written exams will be used to shortlist candidates for a Situation Test/ Personal Interview.
