JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) has been set up by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) to manage and regulate joint seat allocation for admissions to over 100 institutes including IITs, NITs, IIITs, and Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). Admissions to all these institutes will be done through a single platform. The idea behind introducing a single counselling platform was to reduce thousands of seats going vacant in engineering colleges across the country. The Joint seat allocation process was introduced to make the whole process of admissions smoother, effective, efficient, transparent and a lot faster. Candidates who qualify for the JEE Main or JEE Advanced must register for JoSAA 2025 to participate in the counselling and admission process for various renowned engineering institutes across India. The admission process for admissions in 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs, and 28 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs) is managed by The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). Candidates will be allotted seats in various rounds of JoSAA counselling. The seat allotment through JoSAA will be based on the merit of candidates and their preference for courses and colleges.

It is a very relatable thing. A good score in JEE Advanced will depend on various factors one of them being the cutoff. Further, the cutoff will depend on various factors like the difficulty level, paper pattern, number of seats in the IITs, number of candidtaes taking the exam and so on. Therefore, it is difficult to say what will be a safe score. However, 300+ is a safe score in JEE Advanced if the total marks in the paper are 360. In 2024, the cutoff has been the highest in recent years. In 2024, the cutoff marks were 109 marks for the Common rank list (CRL) out of 360 marks. For the GEN-EWS and OBC-NCL rank list, the cutoff marks are 98; for SC/ST/Common-PwD/GEN-EWS-PwD/OBC-NCL-PwD/SC-PwD/ST-PwD, is 54 marks and for Preparatory course rank lists, it is 27 marks.

The definition of a good IIT can be subjective. The candidates who wish to get admisison to the first generation of the IITs like IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Roorkee must have a high score of 250+ marks out of 360 marks. However, this is not applicable for all courses offered by these IITs. Every course and IIT has different demand and seat ratio which effects the admission of the candidates. Hence it is very difficult to say what will be the minimum score or rank required in JEE Advanced to get into a good IIT. Candidates must aim to score as high as possible in the exam to be able to get a seat in the first generation of the IITs as these IITs see the most demand and craze among students in academia.

JEE Advanced 2024 paper 1 analysis by FIITJEE

The JEE Advanced 2024 organised by IIT Madras for admission to the 23 IITs is being held on 26th May 2024. The exam has two papers, namely Paper-1 & Paper-2 and both are compulsory. The First sitting (Paper-1) was held between 9:00 am till 12:00 noon. Total no. of questions in Paper-1 were 51 . Total Marks of Paper-1 was 180 which is the same as last year.

Analysis of JEE Advanced 2024 (Paper-1) Morning Session: 9:00 am -12:00 noon:

Total Marks of Paper 1 was 180 & Duration: 3 hrs
The Paper had (51) questions with 17 questions in each subject.
The Paper-1 had (03) three parts- Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics.
Max. Marks for each Part was 60.
In each part there were Four sections:
- Sec-I (Max. marks-12)
- Sec-II (Max. Marks-12)
- Sec-III (Max. marks-24)
- Sec-IV (Max. marks-12)
Sec-I had (04) Four Questions with four options in which only ONE option was correct. Marking scheme in this section:
- Full marks: +3 If only the correct option is chosen
- Zero Marks:: 0 If none of the options are chosen
- Negative Marks: -1 In all other cases
Sec-II had (03) Three questions with four options in which ONE OR MORE THAN ONE option(s) were correct. Marking scheme in this section:
- Full marks: +4 If only (all) the correct options are chosen
- Partial Marks: +3 If all the four options are correct but ONLY three correct options are chosen
- Partial Marks: +2 If three or more options are correct but only two correct options are chosen
- Partial Marks: +1 If two or more options are correct but only one correct option is chosen
- Zero Marks:: 0 If none of the options are chosen
- Negative Marks: -2 In all other cases
Sec-III had (06) Six questions of Numerical Based (Non-Negative Integer Type). Marking scheme in this section:
- Full marks: +4 for the correct answer
- Zero Marks: 0 in all other cases
Sec-IV had (04) Four questions with each question of Match List type i.e. Match List-I to List-II. List-I had 4 questions to be matched to List-II which had 5 options. One or more than one options were correct. Marking scheme in this section:
- Full marks: +3 in case all options are correct,
- Zero Marks: 0 if none of the options are chosen
- Negative Marks: -1 In all other cases

Paper-1: Immediate reaction of students: Students found the overall level of paper Moderate to Difficult level but not easy. Students have reported Maths was Easy to Moderate, Chemistry was Moderate, but Physics was relatively difficult.

Chemistry was a not balanced as more weightages given to Organic Chemistry. Inorganic Chemistry had few questions which were directly from NCERT. In Physical Chemistry questions covered chapters of Chemical Kinetics, Chemical Equilibrium, Atomic Structure& Thermodynamics. In Organic Chemistry, questions mostly asked from Amines, Polymers, Biomolecules, Oxygen containing Compounds, some named reactions were also asked. Mixed concepts questions were asked. This section was reported Moderate as per students.
Physics. More weightage was given to chapters like Kinematics, Rotational Motion, Kinetic Theory of Gases, Modern Physics, Capacitors, Current Electricity, Optics, Electrostatics, Electromagnetic Induction. Overall Physics was reported Tough as compared to the other two subjects as per students. This was a Balanced Section as per students.
Mathematics was Easy to Moderate as per students. There were questions from Functions, Limits, Definite Integrals, Matrices, Statistics & Probability. Some good questions were asked from chapters of Permutation & Combination, Probability, Complex Numbers, 3-D Geometry, Circles and Ellipse. Some questions were reported Lengthy.

No mistakes reported till now as the complete paper is yet to be analysed. As the test was Computer-based students had the option to Clear Response to change any option, they could mark it for Review, Save and next to proceed further. Scribble Pads were given to students during the exam for rough work.

Last year, the JEE Advanced 2024 exam was held by IIT Guwahati. The total no. of questions in Paper 1 was 51 with 17 questions in each subject. The total Marks of Paper 1 were 180. The paper has three sections - Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Each section had four parts.
