To understand and be well prepared for the exam, the candidates are encouraged to check previous Joint Entrance Examination Advanced question papers. JEE Advanced 2023 Question Paper Design The JEE Advanced question paper design or the exam pattern, varies each year. The aspects that remain the same are: Mode of the exam: The examination will be conducted only in the CBT mode. Several papers: Joint Entrance Examination-Advanced 2022 will consist of two question papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2 of three hours duration each. Both papers are compulsory. Language: English and Hindi Total duration: 6 hours, paper 1 of 3 hours and paper 2 of 3 hours The question paper design varies in the following aspects each year: Marking scheme: The marking schemes change each year. Negative marks may be awarded for incorrect answers to some of the questions. Details of the marking scheme will be provided in the Instructions to the Student section at the time of examination. Several sections: There are 3 parts in each of the 2 papers - papers 1 and 2. The parts are PCM. Each part has 4 sections, the sections are based on varied factors of the marking scheme.

Q:   Do I have to choose my question paper language at the time of JEE Advanced registration?
A:

No. There is no need to indicate Question paper language at the time of Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) 2026 registration. Students will have the option to choose their preferred language that is English or Hindi as the default language for viewing the questions, at the start of the CBT (Computer Based Test) examination of Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) 2026.

JEE Advanced 2024 Paper 1 Exam Pattern

The exam pattern of JEE Advanced 2024 paper 1 is being updated below.

  1. Total Marks of Paper 1 was 180 & Duration: 3 hrs
  2. The Paper had (51) questions with 17 questions in each subject.
  3. The Paper 1 had (03) three parts- Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics.
  4. Max. Marks for each Part was 60.
  5. In each part there were Four sections:
    • Sec-I (Max. marks-12)
    • Sec-II (Max. Marks-12)
    • Sec-III (Max. marks-24)
    • Sec-IV (Max. marks-12)
  6. Sec-I had (04) Four Questions with four options in which only ONE option was correct. Marking scheme in this section:
    • Full marks: +3 If only the correct option is chosen
    • Zero Marks:: 0  If none of the options are chosen
    • Negative Marks: -1 In all other cases
  7. Sec-II had (03) Three questions with four options in which ONE OR MORE THAN ONE option(s) were correct. Marking scheme in this section:
    • Full marks: +4  If only (all)  the correct options are chosen
    • Partial Marks: +3 If all the four options are correct but ONLY three correct options are chosen
    • Partial Marks: +2 If three or more options are correct but only two correct options are chosen
    • Partial Marks: +1 If two or more options are correct but only one correct option is chosen
    • Zero Marks:: 0  If none of the options are chosen
    • Negative Marks: -2 In all other cases
  8. Sec-III had (06) Six questions of Numerical Based (Non-Negative Integer Type). Marking scheme in this section:
    • Full marks: +4 for the correct answer
    • Zero Marks: 0 in all other cases
  9. Sec-IV had (04) Four questions with each question of Match List type i.e. Match List-I to List-II. List-I had 4 questions to be matched to List-II which had 5 options. One or more than one options were correct. Marking scheme in this section:
    • Full marks: +3 in case all options are correct,
    • Zero Marks: 0 if none of the options are chosen
    • Negative Marks: -1 In all other cases

How to Calculate Scores Using JEE Advanced 2024 Answer Key?

To check scores using the JEE Advanced answer key, candidates have to follow the marking scheme of the exam. The marking scheme of the exam is displayed on the JEE Advanced online question paper.

The Joint Entrance Examination-Advanced previous year's question papers with solutions can be checked on the Shiksha Answer Key page. Indian Institutes of Technology, Guwahati will release Joint Entrance Examination-Advanced answers. Students can download the Joint Entrance Examination-Advanced 2023 answer key PDF for papers 1 and 2 on the official website when available. The previous year JEE Advanced question papers will help the candidates understand the nature of the exam, the difficulty level over the years, the exam pattern, the marking scheme, and the weightage of topics from JEE Advanced syllabus. In short, candidates can understand the mindset of the question paper designer and have a strategy to tackle the exam.
Q:   Where can I find JEE Advanced question papers?

Candidates can access the JEE Advanced question papers on the official website of JEE Advanced - jeeadv.ac.in. The official website also hosts the previous year JEE Advanced question paper PDFs for both paper 1 and paper 2 of the exam.

Q:   Will I get a hard copy of the question paper after JEE Advanced exam is over?
A:

No. The JEE Advanced exam is held in computer based test mode and after the exam, candidates will not be given any hardcopy of the questions as asked in the exam. However, the official question papers are uploaded on the official website, jeeadv.ac.in, a few hours after the exam is over in all shifts. Candidates can access the official website and download and save the JEE Advanced question paper PDF.

There are questions of 1 mark, 2 marks, 3 marks and 4 marks. There are also questions with negative markings of -1, -2, etc. Candidates must read the instructions on the question paper properly regarding the marking scheme.

Qualifying Marks for JEE Advanced 2024

To pass the JEE Advanced 2024 exam, candidates must get minimum marks in each subject and also in aggregate. The minimum marks needed in aggregate have been announced by IIT Madras and are subject to revision. The revised JEE Advanced cutoff mark will be announced with the JEE Advanced 2024 result.

JEE Advanced 2024 Result

The results for JEE Advanced 2024 are made available online. Candidates need to login to the official website to view their scores and download the scorecard. Additionally, text messages containing JEE Advanced 2024 result details will be sent to candidates' registered mobile numbers. Individual rank cards will not be provided.

For each candidate, the marks in Physics are the sum of scores obtained in the Physics sections of both Paper 1 and Paper 2. Similarly, marks in Chemistry and Mathematics are calculated likewise. The total aggregate marks are the combined scores in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Qualification in JEE (Advanced) 2024 requires candidates to achieve a minimum percentage of marks in each subject and the overall aggregate, according to their respective category.

The ranking is based on the aggregate marks obtained in JEE Advanced 2024. Only candidates who have attempted both Paper 1 and Paper 2 will be considered for ranking, and there will be no waiting list.

No, your candidature will be rejected as you need to have minimum of 75% in class 12 to be eligible for admisison to the IITs, NIT, IIITs and GFTIs via the JoSAA counselling.
