Here is a face-off between ChatGPT and IIT JEE aspirants. Know how AI perceives the JEE Advanced exam, and can it solve the JEE Advanced question paper better than an IIT aspirant?
JEE Advanced is one of the toughest exams in the WORLD with an average pass rate of only around 20%. Each year, 2.5 lakh qualify from JEE Mains, and they compete for approximately 18,000 seats offered by the 23 IITs. Solving the JEE Advanced question paper is no easy task. Candidates have to attempt 2 papers, and the exam duration is six hours. There are two papers, each of three hours. But what if AI had to take the JEE Advanced exam? Could ChatGPT crack it? And more importantly, could you beat ChatGPT in solving the JEE Advanced papers?
There is a constant comparison between what AI can do and what Humans can't. But, solving the JEE Advanced paper better than a student who has been preparing for the exam for a long time - is that possible? Well, the answer is NO. ChatGPT cannot solve the JEE Advanced question papers like a well-prepared JEE aspirant. AI doesn’t face exam stress and also lacks quick visual interpretation of graphs/images that are an integral part of the question in the JEE Advanced exam.
Let's further explore what ChatGPT thinks about the JEE Advanced exam, how much it would score if it took the test, and more interesting facts in this article.

What ChatGPT Thinks About Cracking JEE Advanced?
"Hey, what do you think about the JEE Advanced exam in one sentence?" When this question was asked to ChatGPT, it replied that JEE Advanced is not just about plain preparation, but smart strategy, a goal, and consistency and the ability to stay calm under pressure are the most important aspects.
Further, here is what ChatGPT has to say about the JEE Advanced exam in detail:
Mindset is important in cracking JEE Advanced: According to ChatGPT, cracking the JEE Advanced exam is about mindset, and smart work is more important than hard work in JEE prep. Cracking JEE Advanced and IIT admission is not a race but a marathon. It cannot be cracked with a sudden preparation plan, a few months before the exam. One should have consistency in their preparation for the IIT JEE exam.

JEE Advanced difficulty level: ChatGPT thinks that the questions asked in JEE Advanced are more about applying concepts to solve tricky questions. Just rote memorisation will never work in solving the IIT JEE questions. As compared to JEE Mains, JEE Advanced focuses on in-depth problem-solving skills, logical reasoning of the candidates in applying multiple concepts interwoven in one question.
What ChatGPT said about JEE Advanced preparation: As per ChatGPT, to prepare for JEE Advanced, candidates should build strong concepts using NCERT books. Later, they can move on to solving JEE Main and JEE Advanced level questions. Even ChatGPT emphasised the importance of JEE Advanced mock tests and analysing the mock test results. It also recommended to revise smartly by focusing on high-weightage chapters/topics for JEE Advanced.
What skills are important to crack JEE Advanced: As per ChatGPT, the most important skills needed to crack the IIT JEE exam include concept clarity, time management and mental strength.
What if ChatGPT Attempted JEE Advanced?
ChatGPT can solve the JEE Advanced papers, for sure. It can solve the questions from Maths, Physics, and Chemistry with high accuracy and speed. In fact, ChatGPT claims that it can score around 220–290 out of 360 if it solves the JEE paper.
But it has a lot of weaknesses and advantages, unlike an IIT JEE aspirant, like:
- Weaknesses: ChatGPT relies on memorisation, like NCERT-specific data and other JEE preparation resources available on the internet. Also, ChatGPT cannot interpret graphs/images included with the questions. It lacks visual interpretation and requires human intervention, which would be equivalent to cheating in the JEE Advanced exam.
- Advantages: Moreover, ChatGPT do not have to face exam-day like stress, expectations of family, burnouts, distractions, health issues, etc.

Preparing for exams like JEE Mains, JEE Advanced, BITSAT, and other CETs can seem overwhelming, but you can achieve this with a strategy. Here are the facts:
- Compare the syllabus: All engineering entrance exams have almost the same syllabus. There might be some additional topics in some exams. The aspirant must study the syllabus for all exams and find out the topics that are extra, and prepare those separately. Almost 90% of the topics will be common for all entrance exams, and hence, syllabus completion for one exam will lead to completion of the syllabus for all the exams.
- Prepare for JEE Mains and incorporate the preparation for all other exams: Apart from JEE Advanced, all the exams are pretty straightforward for a well-prepared candidate. JEE Advanced require a higher level of preparation as the questions are multi-conceptual. However, the state-level entrance exams, and exams like BITSAT, VITEEE, etc., have direct questions. Most of the questions in JEE Mains are also direct and require the application of basic concepts. Hence, the candidates must prepare for one exam, like JEE Mains, that will cover their preparation for all other exams.
- JEE Advanced needs extra effort: For JEE Advanced candidates must focus on time management and building exam day temperament. Learn how to apply multiple concepts to a question.
The bottom line is to prepare for JEE Mains to cover the preparation for all other CETs and exams like BITSAT and VITEEE. For JEE Advanced, work on sharpening your skills of time management, stress handling, multiple concept application, speed and accuracy.

As per the analysis of the previous year data, the candidates belonging to general category must aim to score around 180 marks out of 360 to qualify the exam. 180+ marks will be a safe zone and will ensure that you pass the exam for IIT admissions. However, note that this marks will not get you a go

The aspirants of JEE Advanced must keep in mind that the difficulty level of the exam cannot be determined by the IIT conducting the exam. The JEE Advanced paper is not made by one single IIT; rather, it is prepared by experts from multiple institutes. The difficulty level of the exam is independent of the IIT conducting the exam.
Thus, note that the conducting IIT do not set the difficulty level of the paper and neither do they set the exam paper.
The difficulty level of the exam will vary based on the preparation of the candidates. The same question paper can be difficult for the candidates with poor preparation while a well prepared candidate will find the same paper easy or less challenging.
