Q:   What is the TNEA supplementary counselling?
A:
The Tamil Nadu engineering admission supplementary counselling is conducted by TNEA after normal counseling. TNEA Supplementary Counseling process is done for those students who failed their 12th grade. This is done later so that these students can pass and attend admission counselling again. However, anyone can participate in this counselling. TNEA-qualified students can attend this counselling even after getting a college allocation and making a fee payment if they want to change colleges. This supplementary counselling process is done after the 4th round of TNEA counseling. Also, those students who had joined other courses, such as arts, but now want to change to engineering can attend this counselling to get into an engineering college. Q:   I have 75 % in CBSE class 12th and my cutoff is 136. Can I get B.Tech IT in TNEA colleges?
A:
The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions TNEA process is used to place candidates at various engineering colleges throughout the state of Tamil Nadu. TNEA rank lists are used to offer admissions to candidates in undergraduate programs like Bachelors of Engineering (BE) and Bachelors of Technology (B.Tech) in colleges in Tamil Nadu. The TNEA written exam has been scrapped as the counselling is based on Class 12 marks, and therefore seats are allotted in the colleges through the TNEA rank list. You need to register on the official website, after which category-wise rank lists will be announced. You can get admission for B.Tech (IT) in TNEA if your aggregate score is decent enough (130 or more) and you make it to the rank list released by the Directorate of Technical Education.

  • BC: closing near 26,492; AI&DS closed around 19,896.
  • Other categories like MBC, SC have higher closing ranks.
Q:   When will the counselling dates be announced for TNEA?
A:

The TNEA 2026 dates are now out at tneaonline.org.

Q:   Is the first graduation Certificate mandatory for the TNEA counselling?
A:
The First Graduate Certificate is issued by the Tamil Nadu government to those candidates who will receive fee concessions or scholarships. In such candidates' families, they will be the first graduate, and no other person in the family is a graduate. This first graduation Certificate is issued by a Tahsildar-rank government officer. It is mandatory only for those candidates who have selected this option while filling out the TNEA application form. It is not essential to participate in counseling but is required during document verification if you selected the option of a first-time graduate on your application form.

Seat Confirmation After TNEA Allotment 2026

During the allotment stage, if a candidate is allotted a seat, then the following six options will be shown. The candidate must confirm the seat within as per the deadline. Non-confirmation of the allotted seat by the candidate will lead to loss of his/her seat, and the candidate will be moved to the next round.

Various confirmation options that are available to the candidate allotted a seat:

Accept and Join:

Candidates who are satisfied with the seat allotted need to download the provisional allotment order and report to the college on or before the date specified in the allotment order for admission. Non-reporting and non-payment of fees will be considered as not willing to join, and the allotment order will be cancelled. Such candidates will lose the allotted seat and will not be considered for further rounds of counselling.

Accept and Upward:

A candidate who is satisfied with the seat allotted but wishes to wait for allotment in the higher order of his/her choice in the ensuing upward movement will be given a tentative allotment order. They must report to the nearest TFC on or before the date specified in the allotment order and pay the necessary fees for upward movement and confirmation of previous allotment. Non-reporting and non-payment of fees will be considered as not willing to join, and the allotment order will be cancelled. Such candidates will lose the allotted seat and will not be considered for further rounds of counselling.

For example, if a candidate is allotted choice 5, they can report to the nearest TFCs, pay the necessary fees and wait for choices 1,2,3,4. In case no better choice is available in upward movement, then the candidate is confirmed with the previously allotted choice 5, as they have paid the necessary fee in the TFC.

Decline and Upward:

Candidate is not satisfied with the allotted seat; therefore, they decline the allotment, but prefer to wait for allotment in the higher order of his/her choice in the ensuing upward movement. If they is unable to get his/her preferred allotment in upward movement, then the candidate will be moved to the next round.

Decline and move to the next round:

The candidate is not satisfied with the allotted seat and also the candidate does not wish to wait for upward movement, but they is willing to participate in the next round.

Decline and Quit:

The candidate is not satisfied with the allotted seat, and they do not wish to participate in subsequent rounds.

Upward or move to the next round:

If ‘no seat’ is allotted to the candidate based on all the choices, then this option will be shown. Such candidates can opt for upward movement. In case a seat is available during upward movement, it will be allotted. If no seats are available during upward movement, then the candidate will be moved to the next round.
