TNEA Cutoff Calculator 2025 Formula

The maximum scaled score for TNEA 2025 is 200. The subjects in 10+2 that will be used for cutoff marks calculation are Maths, Physics and Chemistry. To calculate your marks for TNEA out of the scaled score of 200, candidates have to use the formula below:

TNEA Score = Mathematics + (Physics/2) + (Chemistry/2)

For example, if your marks in class 12 are 90 in Maths, 98 in Physics and 87 in Chemistry, then your TNEA 2025 score out of a scaled score of 200 will be:

TNEA score = 90 + (98/2) + (87/2) = 182.5

TNEA 2025 Normalisation of Marks and Inter-se Merit

As per Tamil Nadu Acts No.3 of 2007, dt: 05.03.2007 and G.O. (Ms) No.77 HE (J2) Dept, dt: 05.04.2007, the marks obtained by the students in the relevant subjects in the qualifying examination conducted by various Boards or Authority shall be equated with the marks obtained by the students in the same subjects in the qualifying examination conducted by the State Board of Tamil Nadu by adopting the method of normalisation.

For example: If the highest mark secured by the student of the State Board of Tamil Nadu in Physics is 100 and the highest mark secured by a student of any other Board in the same subject is 90, both the highest marks will be considered to be equal to 100. If a student of the other Board secures 60 marks in Physics when the first mark in Physics in the same Board is 90, 60 marks will be considered to be equal to 66.66 marks, as shown below.

(60/90) ∗ 100 = 66.66%

After normalisation of marks in the relevant subjects in the qualifying examination conducted by different Boards, the qualified students shall be merged into a common merit list.

In the case of candidates who have qualified from National Boards, namely CBSE and ISCE, the highest mark obtained in the relevant subject by the candidates at the National Level alone will be taken into consideration for normalisation.

The Other Boards will be requested to furnish the maximum marks scored in the relevant subjects. In case such marks are not available before the preparation of the rank list, the maximum marks scored in that Board will be considered as 100 %. For minimum eligibility, normalised marks will not be considered.

TNEA 2025 Tie-Breaking Policy

A merit list will be prepared based on the total mark of 200. In cases where more than one candidate has got the same marks in the common merit list, the inter-se-merit among such candidates shall be determined in the order of priority as specified below:

  1. percentage of marks in Mathematics
  2. percentage of marks in Physics
  3. percentage of marks in the optional subject
  4. percentage of total marks in the 12th Standard Examination
  5. date of birth (elder will be given preference), and
  6. Random number assigned (higher value will be given preference)

The overall rank and community-wise rank lists are published on the official website - tneaonline.org. The college and the branch are provisionally allotted through online TNEA 2025 counselling only, as per their choice, based on their overall rank and community rank.

Factors Influencing TNEA 2025 Cutoff

Based on the various factors, the cutoff ranks and marks for TNEA can vary. Some of these factors are:

  • Total number of applicants
  • The total number of seats on offer from various participating colleges of the TNEA counselling.
  • The highest marks scored by the candidates across various boards.
  • Previous year cutoff trends of the colleges.

With a 5,667 community rank, your best bet at TCE is branches like Electrical & Electronics, Information Technology, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering. CSE and ECE are out of reach, but these other options fit your rank well.
