NIMCET 2026: Application Form (OUT), Exam Dates (June 6), Eligibility, Revised Syllabus, Exam Pattern

The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are the conducting authorities of the NIMCET. Every year, an NIT conducts the exam on a rotational basis. In 2025, the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, conducted the exam.

Educational Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in any discipline with Mathematics/Statistics (Mandatory)/B.E./B.Tech degree from a recognised university. 
Minimum Marks:

• OPEN/OPEN-EWS/OBC: 60% aggregate marks or 6.5 CGPA. 
• SC/ST/PwD: 55% aggregate marks or 6.0 CGPA. 

Final year students are also eligible to apply.

No. You cannot manually convert CGPA to percentage or vice-versa to qualify. If your university uses a 10-point scale, a 6.5 CGPA is the minimum requirement for General/OBC candidates.

The NIMCET application edit window usually opens 2-3 days after the last day of application. Historically, it opens for 2 days within which applicants can make any edits in their application if required. Please note that no requests in this regard shall be entertained thereafter.

No, there will not be any break during the NIMCET exam. The NIMCET exam will be conducted with a single paper containing 120 MCQs. After the candidate finishes one segment, another will pop immediately, so there will be no scope for break.

No, you do not need to attempt all questions of the NIMCET. If you are not confident, do not answer it. Please note there is negative marking for each incorrect answer. 

You must familiarise yourself with the NIMCET exam pattern and syllabus to identify the key topics, time limit, question paper format, and types of questions covered. 

As per the exam pattern of the NIMCET, and its rules, if a candidate marks more than one answer against a question, it will be negatively marked.

No, one month is not sufficient for NIMCET preparation. You would need to study an extensive syllabus that would need time as well as a lot of effort. However, if you are a BCA student that your college education might help you in your preparation, since the topics of NIMCET and BCA are similar, you would need to brush up on your knowledge. It is recommended to solve previous year NIMCET question papers to make yourself acquainted with the NIMCET exam.

The mathematics section of NIMCET is the most important section and will include 50 Questions. Topics to cover in the mathematics section of NIMCET exam include-

• Calculus

No need to get disheartened. If by chance you couldn't crack the NIMCET, you can apply for other MCA programs from other private colleges, or take up other MCA entrance exams, or even prepare well to retake the NIMCET the next year. No, NIMCET does not announce a single, common institute-wise cut-off rank list. It releases a common NIMCET cutoff list. However, NITs can determine their opening and closing ranks for their MCA programs, based on the overall rank, seat availability and applicant pool. Candidates are advised to check the official websites of the individual NITs and IIITs after the final NIMCET results to stay updated on any such event.

Yes. According to NIMCET information brochure, for each correct answer, you will get full marks, and for each incorrect answer, there is a 25% deduction. Here is how it goes
