Factors Affecting AILET SC Category Cutoff

Read the factors that impact the cutoff scores for admission to the premier law institute. Find out what the basis is on which the AILET cutoff is decided:

  1. Total Seat Intake: NLU Delhi has allocated exactly 17 seats for the Scheduled Caste (SC) category in its undergraduate BA LLB (Hons.) program. If the cutoff goes low, the competition for admission gets tough and vice versa.
  2. Question Paper Difficulty Level: If the exam difficulty level is low, then the cutoff goes high, provided the number of candidates appearing for the exam is vast.
  3. Number of Applicants: The quantum of applications received for admission is another deciding factor that defines whether the cutoff remains low or high.
  4. Sub-Category Reservations, such as Women's Reservation: Despite a reservation for different categories, there is a horizontal reservation for women candidates as well.
  5. Counselling Rounds: NLU Delhi conducts counselling in multiple rounds. Typically, there are three to four rounds of counselling if the seats remain vacant. This is another factor that influences the cutoff scores.

Commonly asked questions
Q:   When will AILET counselling registration be held?
A:

The AILET 2026 counselling registrations were started on December 19, 2025, and closed on December 27, 2025. During the counselling process, the candidates register online and perform document verification.

Q:   Is AILET cutoff for all categories the same?
A:

No, AILET Entrance Exam cutoff is released separately for the various categories. For instance, the cut-off is available for categories like Open, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and PH categories. Note that open category candidates will not be considered for admission under reserved category seats. However, candidates belonging to reserved category will be considered for admission under both open and the reserved category they belong to. To be considered for admission under reserved category, the candidate must furnish the required category certificates. However, any candidate who is found using counterfeit documents can be disqualified at any stage of the admission process.

Q:   How is NLU Delhi different from other National Law Universities?
A:

Even though NLU Delhi is a National Law University but it is not a part of the Consortium of NLUs. All the NLUs in India have been granted the status by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Thus, there is no major difference in the courses offered at NLU Delhi as compared to the other National Law Universities. However, the NLU Delhi offers admission to is BA LLB and LLM program through the AILET entrance exam.

Q:   What factors are considered while determining the AILET cutoff?
A:

Following factors are considered to determine the AILET cutoff-

  • Difficulty level of exam
  • Number of candidates appeared
