Want to study law in Kerala right after Class 12? KLEE is the exam for the candidate. It is a short,computer-based exam and the syllabus fits on one page. That doesn't make it easy, though. Most of the marks sit in just two sections, and a wrong answer costs you. Hence, it is very important that one should give the exam thoroughly.
KLEE, the Kerala Law Entrance Examination, is held by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala. It fills seats in the 3-year LLB, 5-year LLB and LLM courses of law colleges in the state. This article is about the Klee 5-year LLB syllabus 2027 integrated course. The 2027 notification hasn't come out yet, so the details below are from the 2026 exam, which followed the same pattern as 2025.

The KLEE 5 year LLB Syllabus

The paper has four sections: English, General Knowledge, Arithmetic and Logi, and Aptitude for Legal Studies. The 3-year LLB uses the same sections. It's a separate paper, though, and a tougher one.
Note: CEE Kerala's prospectus names the sections but doesn't list topics. What a candidate will see on coaching and education sites is pieced together from old papers. It's reliable enough to plan with, but it isn't an official list.
English: Reading comprehension, grammar, sentence correction, synonyms and antonyms, idioms and phrases, sentence arrangement and word usage. Last year's section was mostly grammar and vocabulary, and students who wrote it called it easy.
General Knowledge: Half current affairs, half static GK. On the current side a candidate will see national and international events, sports, geopolitics, international bodies, environmental agreements and awards. On the static side there's Indian polity and the Constitution. Kerala gets a lot of space too. The 2026 paper had questions on the 75th anniversary of the state's formation, the Kuttanad region and Thrissur Pooram.
Arithmetic and Reasoning: Class 10 maths: percentages, ratio, averages, profit and loss, time and work, time and distance, algebra, mensuration. Then the reasoning bit, with analogies, blood relations, coding-decoding, direction sense and data interpretation.
Aptitude for Legal Studies: This is the heaviest section. It draws on constitutional law (Fundamental Rights and Directive Principles mostly), torts, contracts, basic criminal law, legal maxims and well-known judgments. A lot of the questions give a candidate a legal principle and a short situation, and ask which outcome follows. A student can answer these without having studied law, but a candidate will be quicker if he knows the basics.

What is the Qualifying marks for KLEE exam 2027?

A candidate must clear a minimum score to appear on the rank list. It's 10% for General and SEBC candidates, which comes to 36 out of 360. For SC and ST candidates it's 5%, or 18 out of 360. If the candidate falls short then he is out of counselling.

How to Prepare for Klee exam 2027?

A candidate must put most of his time into Legal Aptitude and English. For the legal section, solve a few principle-based questions every day and keep a running list of Latin maxims. Read through the Fundamental Rights and the main Directive Principles, and get to know about some of the Supreme Court cases. For English, read a newspaper editorial every day. Comprehension questions reward speed, and that only comes from reading regularly.
General Knowledge can't be crammed. Start following the news at least six months out, and don't skip Kerala's history, culture and geography, since they show up year after year. The arithmetic section is only 15 questions of straightforward sums, so a few weeks of practice should do.
Then there's negative marking. A wrong answer takes away one mark, and the candidate can also lose the three he had earned if he would have been right. If he can't cross out at least two of the four options, it's usually better to move on. Finally, solve the previous year’s question papers on a computer, not on paper.
