The Ministry of Education has released the NIRF Rankings 2025. India has prominent law colleges, including National Law Universities and, here is a list of top 10 law colleges in India with their unique features, including NIRF Ranking2025, and the admission process.  

Law is an interesting career option to choose from if you are ready to study hard for the initial few years and are able to remember things over a long duration of time. Nowadays, students who opt to pursue law have the option to select from courses such as BA LLB (5 years), BCom LLB (5-years), BSc LLB (5-years), BTech LLB (5-years) and BBA LLB (5 years) at the undergraduate level and, LLB (3 years), LLM course at the postgraduate level. Also, students can choose to pursue a career in newer branches of law, such as administrative law, cyber law, human rights law, environmental law, education law, and intellectual property laws, apart from the traditional ones – criminal law, civil law, corporate law, labour law, taxation law, and banking law.

Q:   Can I take admission to 3-year LLB through TS LAWCET 2026?
A:

TS LAWCET 2026 exam will be conducted for admission to both five-year integrated LLB courses and three-year LLB courses offered at Telangana state universities and colleges. The mode of examination is Computer-Based Test mode, and the total duration is 90 minutes. TS LAWCET is a state-level law entrance exam conducted by Osmania University, Hyderabad on behalf of Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE), Hyderabad. So if you are looking to take admission to 3-year LLB through TS LAWCET 2026, you can sit for the exam.

Q:   When will the merit list of DU LL.B. 2023 admissions be released?
A:
The merit list of Delhi University will be published within a week after the results of CUET-PG 2023 are declared. The university will prepare a merit list of all candidates who appeared for LL.B. Paper through CUET-PG 2023. However, the candidates must have selected Delhi University as their preferred university for admission to LL.B. Course. Candidates seeking admission to the undergraduate courses offered at BHU can apply for admission on the basis of CUET 2023 scores. National Law School of India University

Established in 1986 in Bangalore, the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) is spread over an area of 23 acres. Since 1991, the University is fully residential with three halls of residence for men and women each along with two Hostels for post-graduate women students, three blocks for faculty quarters and two blocks for non-teaching staff quarters beside the Academic Block. Sudha Narayanamurthy of Infosys has helped establish a library at this law school which is called “Shri Melgiri Narayan Rao Memorial Library”, named after her father.

The Chief Justice of India is the Chancellor of the University while the Chairman, Bar Council of India, is the Chairman of the General Council of National Law School of India University.

The seat intake of BHU UET 2023 undergraduate courses is different for various faculty members. The course-wise seat intake for Banaras Hindu University is as under: B.A. (Hons. ). Arts - 2453 seats at 6 colleges Vocational Courses in Main Campus - 434 seats Vocational Courses in RGSC, Barkachha - 372 seats B.A. (Hons. ). Social Sciences - 1959 seats at 6 colleges B.Com. (Hons. ). - 819 seats at 5 colleges B.Com. (Hons. ). Financial Markets Management - 62 seats at Main campus /Rajiv Gandhi South Campus, Mirzapur (Male & Female) B.Sc. (Hons. ). Q:   Is there any age relaxation for admission through BHU UET 2023?
A:
The Banaras Hindu University has provided certain relaxations to candidates, and age limit relaxation is one such relief. As per the eligibility criteria of BHU UET 2023, the candidates are given, "an age relaxation of 5 years in upper age limit for candidates belonging to SC/ST and PWD categories and 3 years in upper age limit for candidates belonging to OBC category for admissions in various courses wherever the upper age limit is prescribed. " Apart from this, candidates holding SC/ST caste Certificate do not need to meet minimum marks requirement, which is 40% in the qualifying examination for all other categories. This means, full relaxation in minimum marks has been given to SC/ ST category to be eligible for admission. In addition, "For OBC and PWD candidates there will be a relaxation of 5% marks in aggregate in the qualifying examination in minimum eligibility requirements, in comparison to general category candidates. The fee structure for all courses offered through BHU UET 2023 is different. National Law University, Delhi

National Law University is one of the national law schools in India. According to the National Law University Act 2007, the Chief Justice of India is the university's visitor, whereas the Chief Justice of the High Court of Delhi functions as the university's chancellor. whereas its vice-chancellor functions as the chief administrator. NLU Delhi conducts its own entrance exam called AILET.

 National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University

Commonly referred to as NALSAR University of Law, this famous law school was established in 1998 and is located in Shamirpet, the northern outskirts of Hyderabad. The Chief Justice of AP High Court is the Chancellor of this law school and Professor Srikrishna Deva Rao is its Vice-Chancellor.

A fully residential University, this law school is spread over an area of 55 acres. At present, 400 students are pursuing the undergraduate course at the university and 120 postgraduate students are present at NALSAR University of Law.

The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences

Established in 1999, West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata, is amongst the best national law schools in India. In August 2004, it was notified under Clause (f) of Section 2 of the UGC Act, 1956. It has been granted permanent affiliation by the Bar Council of India in 2005. One of the autonomous law schools in India, West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences offers infrastructural facilities like libraries, laboratories and classrooms.

Gujarat National Law University

[Ranked 5 in NIRF Ranking 2025]

Commonly referred to as GNLU, Gujarat National Law University, located at Gandhinagar became functional in 2004. This law school is spread over an area of 50 acres of land and has 62 academic staff members along with 800 undergraduate students and 80 postgraduate students.

The official website further elaborates on the working of the law school by stating, “Since its inception, the University has been holding regular in-house Moot Court competitions wherein meritorious students are sent abroad for participating in Moot Court jamborees. The hub of activity happens to be our Moot Court Committee and the Legal Aid Clinic, which have developed a workable and efficient interface with the industry and the Judiciary to the satisfaction of us all”.

Indian Institute of Technology

It is a public research university established by the government of India in 1951. In the year 2019, IIT Kharagpur was awarded the status of "Institute of Eminence" by the Government of India. Other than Engineering, the institute also offers courses in management, law, architecturehumanities, etc.

Symbiosis Law School, Pune

(NIRF Rank: 7)

Admission Through: SLAT

Symbiosis was established in 1971 under the patronage of Dr S B Mujumdar who was its president and founder-director. The official website says, “Symbiosis Law School, Pune established in June 1977, was earlier affiliated to the University of Pune and later became a constituent of Symbiosis International University in 2002, with an enhanced degree of autonomy in teaching, learning and research.”

Courses offered at Symbiosis Law School include – BA LLB, BBA LLB, LLM, Diploma programmes, PhD and certificate programmes in European legal studies as well as a certificate course in securities laws.

Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia

Admission Through: Jamia Millia Islamia Law Entrance Exam

Established in 1989, the Faculty of Law at Jamia Millia Islamia at that time only used to offer three year LLB programme to aspirants.

Now, the Faculty of Law - JMI offers BA LLB (Hons) programmes as well as two year LLM course in three specialisations as Personal Law, Corporate Laws and Criminal Law. The law school also offers a PhD programme in law to aspirants.

In the LLM course, there are 20 seats, whereas in the BA LLB (Hons) and BA LLB (Self-financed) courses, there are 60 seats each available for admission.

Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University

Established in 1894, Aligarh Muslim University’s Faculty of Law is one of the oldest law schools in the country. This law school offers admissions to 100 students in its BA LLB course.

Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) offers graduate, postgraduate, PhD as well as diploma programmes in law. The college library is known to have more than 24,000 books.

Students also need to undergo summer training programmes. As part of these internships students of AMU’s Faculty of law intern at NHRC - New Delhi, law firms of the Supreme Court of India; guided by the Secretary Bar Council, Supreme Court etc.

Siksha `O` Anusandhan

(Ranked 10 in NIRF Ranking 2025}

Admission through: CLAT

 Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) University, Bhubaneswar, offers law programs through its Institute of Law (ILS). The courses include BA LLB (Hons.), BBA LLB (Hons.), B.Sc. LLB (Hons.), LLM, and PhD in Law. Admissions are based on the SAAT entrance test or other recognized law entrance exams. The curriculum combines legal theory with practical exposure through moot courts, internships, legal aid clinics, and research activities. SOA’s law school is approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and emphasises interdisciplinary learning, skill development, and ethics, preparing students for careers in advocacy, judiciary, corporate law, and academia.
