Keep on improving by learning from the mistakes. Take the mock tests regularly and work on the mistakes while managing time to secure high percentile in MAT.
Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is conducted four times a year during the month of February, May, September and December. In this article, I am talking about the MAT (May) based on my personal experience. There are two types of format for MAT. These are the Computer-based Test (CBT) and the Paper-based Test (PBT). The revised schedule of the MAT May exam is tabulated below:

Mock Test & Time Management - I maximised my score by strategising and keeping an eye on the exam pattern as mentioned above. Mock tests have more value than general practise, so take it more seriously. Try to attempt a test every day or every alternative day. Practising mock tests would help in managing time during the final exam day, as you will get only two hours thirty minutes to attempt the test.
Strengths & Weaknesses – After several attempts of mock test you will be aware of your strengths and weaknesses. So, keep a track of the results of the mock test. Practise the incorrect questions attempted in the mock test. Also, practise the correct questions as well and try to minimise the time taken
No. of questions attempted – To get 90 or above percentile, I attempted 30 out of 40 questions each in Logical and Verbal Ability, 25 out of 40 questions each in Data Interpretation and Quantitative Aptitude. So, the total questions I attempted were around 110 out of 160 questions.
Other tips:
- Make sure not to repeat the mistakes
- Manage the time by solving the easy ones quickly
- Don’t panic, stay calm.
- Follow a healthy daily routine and maintain a balanced diet.

MAT is overall an easy exam, but if you compare the sections, usually the Quantitative Aptitude is considered tougher than rest of the four sections, due to calculation intensive questions.

All the MAT sections have same weightage, i.e. 30 questions and 30 marks. So candidates must keep in mind to prepare each section properly and poor performance in one section can affect overall score.

The percentile needed for admission would depend on the category you belong to. JAGSoM accepts various entrance examinations for admission to the MBA/PGDM course, like CAT, XAT, MAT, etc.
As per the estimated XAT cutoff in 2026, a percentile of 70 would be good enough to secure a chance at admission
