After a gap of more than two years, Panjab University (PU) is all set to hold its annual convocation on May 6. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, who is the PU chancellor, is also expected to preside over the convocation.

The university has yet to decide whether the convocation will also include students of previous batches, who missed the ceremony in 2020 and 2021. It must be noted that the varsity has not conducted the annual convocation in the past two years amid the COVID-19 outbreak and the restrictions imposed to contain it.

Now, with the event returning after a two-year hiatus, preparations are in full swing. Traditionally, the annual convocation is conducted in April, however, since the varsity reopened in March, it has been scheduled to be held in May. Panjab University will be holding the convocation on May 6.

PU’s last convocation, the 68th edition, on April 28, 2019, was also addressed by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu. A total of 1,020 students, including 493 PhD scholars, had received their degrees.

After missing it for two consecutive years, the varsity students are now excited for the convocation to be held this year as the situation has improved now.

Speaking on the same, PU National Students Union of India (NSUI) president Nikhil Narmeta said, “It is good that the university is holding the convocation. It is every parent’s dream to see their child in a black robe holding a degree. The university should allow parents to witness the event this year and convocation for batches 2019 and 2020 should be held too.”
