SSC CGL Tier 1 Marks After Normalisation
The Combined Graduate Level Tier 1 was conducted in multiple shifts across multiple days. To provide a level playing field, the Commission conduct the normalisation process to do equalisation among all candidates. The raw marks of the candidates increase and decrease depending on the difficulty level of the paper. If the SSC consider that the paper of a particular shift was easy, the marks of the candidates will be decreased.
SSC Normalisation of Marks
The Staff Selection Commission released a new Normalisation formula for all of its exam in June 2025. The Commission will prepare SSC CGL result 2025 based on the normalisation of marks arrived after the implementation of the Normalisation process on the raw marks of the candidate. The Commission will follow the following process to conver the raw marks into normalised marks:
Stage 1: The Raw SSC CGL Scores of the candidates will be converted into percentile score for each shift. The percentile will be calculated for each shift separately. It means that the normalisation will be done for all shifts instead of the day of examination.
Stage 2: Pull Back the percentile to the marks scale: This is done by first collating the data across all sessions into one table, then sorting the records in decreasing (increasing) order of percentiles, and finally filling in the gaps in the raw score tab1e by interpolation.
Stage 3: At the end of the previous stage, each percentile value will have a corresponding raw score value for each session. This is combined to get the normalised score.
The candidates should note that the percentile so calculated will satisfy 0 < P < 1.
The percentile P above can be rounded off to the requisite number of decimal places. It is recommended to do it till 8th places of decimal.
The Staff Selection Commission has implemented a complex normalisation process which can be understood through the attached file.
