The Commission mentioned in the official notification that there is a negative marking in Tier 1 and Tier 2 exam. The candidates should note that the Commission will deduct 0.5 marks for each incorrect answer in the SSC CGL Tier 1 exam. How SSC CGL Tier 1 Marks are Calculated?
SSC CGL Tier 1 exam is conducted as a Computer-Based Exam (CBE) in multiple shifts. The candidates need to mark the answers on the screen and the candidates need to read, understand, solve and mark the answer in less than one minute. The Commission released the SSC CGL answer key (tentative) on December 17 and the candidates can calculate their marks in the following way:
| SSC CGL Tier 1 Marks Calculation | |
|---|---|
| Marks added for each correct answer | 2 |
| Marks deducted for incorrect answer | 0.5 |
| Final Marks (Raw) | 2*(number of correct answers) - {0.5*(number of incorrect answers)} |
With the help of above table the candidates can calculate their SSC CGL marks.
Details Mentions in SSC CGL Scorecard
The Commission mention all the important details in the SSC CGL scorecard for the candidates to inform them the details about their SSC CGL Marks.
- Registration Number
- Roll Number
- Name
- Fathers Name
- Mothers Name
- Gender
- Date of Birth
- Cat 1
- Cat 2
- Cat 3
- Marks in each section, Raw Marks and Normalised Marks
The SSC CGL scorecard is the reflection of candidates' performance in each section and the difficulty level of the question paper.
SSC CGL Tier 1 Marks After Normalisation
SSC CGL exam is conducted in multiple shifts across multiple days. To provide a level playing field, the Commission conduct the normalisation process to do equalisation among all candidates. The raw marks of the candidates increase and decrease depending on the difficulty level of the paper. If the SSC consider that the paper of a particular shift was easy, the marks of the candidates will be decreased.
Basic Assumption for SSC Normalisation of Marks
SSC assumes that “in all multi-shift examinations, the distribution of abilities of candidates is the same across all the shifts”. This assumption of SSC is justified since the number of candidates appearing in multiple shifts in the examinations conducted by the Commission is large and the procedure for allocation of examination shifts to candidates is random.
SSC released the normalisation formula in the official notice as given below:
SSC CGL normalisation is a way of carrying out equalisation among all the candidates who appeared in all the shifts of exams.
