Limited Seats, Register Now!How an attempt is counted?
Around ten lakh candidates apply for the exam every year and a half of them do not appear in the exam. One question is asked by most of the candidates is How an attempt is counted? UPSC does not count the attempt only by filling out the application form. Attempt in the UPSC Civil Service Exam is counted if the candidate appears in any one paper of the IAS prelims exam. Irrespective of them not appearing in the second paper.
UPSC IAS 2022 application process
The candidates can fill out the IAS 2022 application online only. The IAS application has two parts. Part-I is concerned about the registration of personal details and Part II is concerned with the uploading of the picture, signature, Photo ID card and submission of the application fee as per the category of the candidate. One important point is that there is no application fee for the female candidates and the candidates belonging to SC and ST communities.
Number of Subjects in UPSC IAS Exam
The candidates often ask about the number of optional subjects in the Civil Service Main Exam. The complete list of optional subjects is provided in the notification itself. There is not any subject which can be more scoring than others. The marking in the subject is based on the quality of answers written.
Scaling in IAS Main exam
The UPSC has mentioned nothing about the scaling in the IAS prelims or main exam. After introducing four general studies papers in the Civil Service Main exam, there was no need for scaling in the main exam. Though the scoring in the optional subjects sometimes demands scaling because of the difficulty level of the question paper, it is neither accepted nor mentioned by the Commission on any platform.

The IAS prelims result is declared based on the marks secured in the General Studies Paper-I only. The General Studies-Paper II (CSAT) is qualifying only and the candidates need to score 33% marks in the General Studies Paper-II. The candidates who do not score 33 per cent marks in the General Studies paper -II (CSAT), such candidates do not clear the IAS prelims exam. The marks secured in the IAS prelims are not counted for the final merit list.
