The Union Public Service Commission released the Civil Service Exam Result 2024 for the 2023 session on April 16, 2024. The Commission released the All India Rank, names and roll number of the candidates. In addition to this, the Commission also released the number of candidates (belonging to each category) selected for each of the services. The Rank-Wise Post List 2023 will be released later by the Ministry of Personnel.
The Rank-Wise Post List for the Civil Service Exam is released by the Ministry of Personnel in various iterations. The iterations are needed because some of the selected candidates are allocated to the same service to which they are serving. As a result, they do not join the same service and do not report for joining. Here the UPSC Reserve List comes into play and the Commission recommend more candidates from the reserve list. IAS exam is conducted annually to recruit candidates for All India Services and Central Civil Services. The candidates can see here the list of UPSC Toppers 2023.

Manner of Service Allocation in Civil Service Exam
After the declaration of the final UPSC CSE 2023 result pdf, the candidates always wonder about the allocation of the candidates to the All India and Central Civil Services. The candidates selected in the UPSC final result are recommended to the Ministry of Personnel for service allocation.
Factors Affecting the Service And State Cadre Allocation
The candidates are required to fill out the Detailed Application Form (DAF) during the application process where they are required to fill out their Service and State preferences. The candidates' allocation of the candidates to the services depends on the following factors:
- The Rank of the candidate
- Service Preference of the candidate
- State Preference of the candidate
- Number of Vacancies in the State
- Insider/Outsider Roaster of the state
- Medical Examination of the Candidate
The rank of the candidate helps them to get into the Service of their choice. The candidates are arranged according to their merit and service preference. A higher rank has a higher possibility of getting into the service of their choice.
State Preference comes into play when the number of vacancies in a particular service is few in comparison to the preference filled by the selected candidate.
The Insider/Outsider roaster of the state decides whether the candidate will get their home cadre or not. Getting Home cadre is the result of the dynamic interplay of all the above-said factors.
Last Rank For IAS
The candidates should note that the rank required to get into the Indian Administrative Service is almost similar every year because, in recent years, the number of IAS vacancies and IPS vacancies has been fixed. Every year, 180 candidates are selected for the IAS. But before 2021, the candidates were required to achieve a higher rank for getting into IAS. The last ranks which were allocated to IAS in the previous years are given below:
