Shiksha: Congratulations on achieving 95+ percentile in CUET UG 2023! Please tell us about yourself?
Prarthana: Thank you very much!
I am Prarthana Drolia from Patna, Bihar. I completed my schooling from Notre Dame Academy. I am an 18 year old enthusiast who loves to explore new and different activities be it dancing, sports, drawing or any other exciting venture!

Shiksha: What was your reaction after getting the CUET result 2023?
Prarthana: At first I couldn't believe that I did it! I immediately rushed and told my mother about it! I was really happy and excited too as now I could join my dream college, SRCC!
Shiksha: What motivated you to aim for a great score in CUET 2023 exam?
Prarthana: I wanted to join SRCC, the dream college for every commerce student. It has good packages, placements, faculty, infrastructure, reputation, etc. Moreover I would get a lot of exposure from the several societies. Also, I would get a chance to learn from the brilliant minds that come from all over the country!
Shiksha: How did you manage your time effectively during your exam preparation? Please share your preparation strategy.
Prarthana: Since I was consistent in my studies right from the beginning, I didn't have a lot of burden right before exams which helped me to take out time for other activities too.
My preparation strategy goes as follows. After I got over with my board examinations, I completed the additional syllabus that was not covered in boards but included in CUET first. For example: NPO, redemption of debentures, computerised accounting, etc. for accountancy, micro economics, poverty, infrastructure, etc. for economics and so on. After that I revised each chapter and then solved only that chapter's MCQs individually. Once I was done with all the chapters in this manner, I started solving the previous year's questions which I received through email from a youtuber who is also my senior at SRCC, upon filling a Google form.
Shiksha: Can you share any challenges or obstacles you faced during your preparation and how you overcame them?
Prarthana: During my CUET preparations, the boards results were released. Although I had prepared a lot for them but still the marks that I scored were not at par with my expectations. This left me disheartened and demotivated for several days. But the support of my mother, teachers and friends made me strive towards CUET again!
Also, I faced some challenges while deciding about the resources to use for my preparation. But with some research, I was able gather the most useful ones!

Shiksha: How did you prepare for CUET UG? Self-study or Coaching? Which method was effective for you?
Prarthana: Self study! I don't think that any seperate coaching is required for CUET preparations. Instead I would recommend to invest that time in solving more and more MCQs. Also lots of free resources are available on YouTube and other platforms.
Shiksha: Apart from your academic studies, were you involved in any extracurricular activities? How did you balance your studies and other commitments?
Prarthana: Yes, I really like dancing! Since I was consistent from the beginning, I didn't have a lot of burden right before my exams. Thus I was able to balance my studies with my personal interests.
Shiksha: What subjects did you find most challenging in CUET syllabus, and how did you overcome those challenges?
Prarthana: I think preparing for English is a bit challenging. There is neither a definite syllabus nor are there any fixed resources from which you can prepare for English. As for me, since my basic grammar is strong and the questions were mostly related to that only, I was able to cope with the questions. Also Rubaika ma'am's videos from CUET ADDA 247 helped me a LOT!!
Shiksha: Which all universities did you apply for? What was your dream college?
Prarthana: I applied for almost all the universities offering the bcom(hons) program in the cuet application form. Since, Xavier's Kolkata is also a good college, I applied there too but it was accepting boards' marks. I was selected in the first merit list also. During the fee payment dates, provisional answer key for CUET was released. Upon seeing that I have scored 800/800, I was sure that I will be able to secure a seat at SRCC. So I didn't take admission in Xavier's.
For the counseling part, I only applied at Delhi University. My dream college is Shri Ram College of Commerce. With the kind of scores that I have received, I am sure that I will be allocated a seat there!
Shiksha: What advice would you give to your fellow students who aspire to achieve a high percentile in their Class 12th and CUET exam?
Prarthana: Be consistent in your studies! If you think that you'll be able to ace the exams just by studying for a few days before them, then you're wrong. Also, focus on your boards first. As those marks would be considered for tie-breaking. Boards' marks are also considered if you want to pursue MBA later. The syllabus for CUET is almost the same as that of boards, so if you prepare for your boards, you will be preparing for CUET automatically. The additional syllabus can be covered after the boards as you'll get roughly 2 months after them.
Study from NCERT only. Avoid reference books, except for economics. For that I will only recommend Sandeep Garg. Solve MCQs from books of renowned authors only. Don't get driven to buy the books just after seeing their sponsored ads as such books might contain irrelevant questions and wrong answers. Some good authors are Dk Goel, Ts Grewal, Alka Dhawan and ML Aggarwal.
