Review of IIT Bombay - Indian Institute of Technology (IITB).
Placements: All the students at IIT Bombay work hard throughout their four years of graduation to get the best salary package. But lately, placements in IIT Bombay are quite random. I have seen deserving candidates getting rejected, and some other not much deserving students getting placed. The highest salary package is offered by Microsoft Redmond. Almost 95% of the students who opt for placements get a job. There is a high demand in the coding arena. The average salary package offered is around 8-9 LPA.
Infrastructure: Lately, there has been a lot of criticism faced by IIT Bombay regarding the infrastructure. Since the institute is 60 years old, the buildings and their foundations have become old and are not much rigid. Cases of the ceiling falling off has become common. The residential infrastructure needs to be revamped. Work has already been started. Academic infrastructure is well-maintained except few outliers.
Faculty: Most of the faculty members are extraordinary in their respective research areas, but their quality of teaching is mediocre. The course curriculum always has a scope for improvement. But, the curriculum is very student-friendly as it gives us the option of dropping courses, and retagging of electives is also provided.
Other: The college organises events like a cultural fest known as Mood Indigo and a technical fest known as Techfest.

IITB has a world-class education and campus.
Placements: I didn't participate in the placements or internships, so I don't know much about it. However, the mechanical department in IITB has been one of the highly regarded courses. The dual degree programme achieves more than 90% of placements each year. The highest salary packages were usually irrespective of departments since they were offered by finance, consulting and FMCG companies. The internship rate was a bit less than the placement rate, and a very few of them pay adequate stipends. However, the companies which offered stipends were good. There was a very efficient placement cell and was very helpful to students.
Infrastructure: Since the institute is about 60 years old and one of the premier engineering institutions in India. Classrooms, labs, libraries, and campus facilities are on par with the best. Just the mechanical department has about 17 labs and some of which are for the most advanced studies. Food offered in the mess depend upon contractors and is usually edible. Hostel rooms are good enough with excellent internet services. The student councils are good to solve any issues faced by students as promptly as possible.
Faculty: Faculty members are well qualified and knowledgeable as most of them are indulged in research. Apart from a very few, most of the faculty members are interested in teaching and are very good at it. The student to teacher ratio is very less compared to other institutions, and it makes teachers approachable. Industry exposure was very limited, but it is possible with individual efforts. The course curriculum is very updated as apart from the basic courses, and a wide range of new specialisation courses are also available.
Other: The institute conducts many events at intra-department, inter-department and institute level throughout the year. A technical fest named Techfest and a cultural fest named Mood Indigo, are famous across the country. The campus is situated in the centre of the Mumbai city, and it has students from all over the country. It has a vibrant atmosphere with world-class opportunities to hone your talent, not only in the technical field.

The best college in India.
Placements: Pretty awesome for CSE department and electrical department. I would say average package of 8-10 for Mechanical. Singer people get PPO from the internships. Many people go for non core jobs as core job offers less money than non core usually. There are two seasons for placements. Some company's are open to B.Tech only and not for dual or M.Tech.
Infrastructure: Awesome! Classrooms have AC, Wi-Fi etc. Library is good. Study room is there. Hostel rooms are very small. Hostel facilities are pretty good. For example each hostel has a gym, pool room, fitness room, launge, canteen etc. Student activity centre has room for almost all the sports from yoga to Cricket. Best ground for all activities. People are very serious about sport. Awesome swimming pool.
Faculty: Course content is good. Curriculum is hard, heavy in terms of credits. Smart work of needed. Many quizzes, tutorials, assignments etc. Arranged along with exams. Relative grading makes it very competitive. Faculty are a bit boring/strict. No anti disciplinary actions are entertained. Exams are tough. You can not copy in exams, very strict.

The best technical institution in the country.
Placements: The placements are usually good with both core and non core companies coming in the placements. The internships is usually available for third year students. There exists a placement cell that takes care of both placements and internships in the institute. It is useful mostly for third year students with respect to mechanical department.
Infrastructure: The institute is fully Wi-Fi, with it's availability in almost all classrooms and common places. There exists a hospital which is open 24 hours. The sports infrastructure is really good and contain all equipment in gymkhana campus. The labs are of high quality and contain expensive equipments which are regularly checked and replaced if necessary. The quality of food is good in all canteens and mess, cleanliness is maintained. The hostel rooms in new hostels are good, however those of old hostels are really pathetic and can't fit two people although two people are forced to stay in those cubicles. Apart from hostel rooms, there is no such infrastructure problems.
Faculty: The faculty is one of the best of India. The teachers are really helpful, but they mostly help only when you approach them. The teachers are highly qualified and have been toppers through their academic life. An average student to faculty ratio is approximately 20:1. It is similar to most best institutions of the world. The faculty regularly try to keep industry trip, regular sessions from industry express are kept for the students to know more about industrial scenario. The course curriculum is somewhat outdated, although efforts are made regularly to improve them. The courses are actually very useful if your interested in core sectors.
Other: The institute boasts of the best extra curricular activities. Events like mood indigo and techfest are Asia's the largest cultural and technical fest respectively. The institute also has very good tech and sports. There are student teams who have made satellite, electric cars, robots, 0 energy house, etc. A number of scholarships are available for the students both on national and international level.

Review from the eye of a 5th year undergraduate.
Placements: I appeared for placements in December 2017. The process is highly organised, and the institute placement team strives hard towards proving best opportunities to the students. There are various parameters on which the companies like to judge the students hence they plan various activities. Most common are aptitude tests, and they get started from the end of August. This is used for shortlisting, there are other factors for shortlisting as well, such as CPI, positions of responsibility, previous internships, etc. In December, based on shortlist, the interviews are conducted. The selection rate is high compared to tier 2 colleges. Also, the type of companies and profile offered by companies are best in the industry if we compare at a graduate freshers' level.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is available in the academic area, and a common area of the hostel is also available. There is a great place for a sports enthusiast since almost all the sports facilities are available. The level of competition is also very high in sports since various sports activities are organised at the hostel as well as at institute level. The quality of mess food depends on which hostel you are in. Some hostels have a good mess, and some have the worst. Canteens are open at a highly convenient time for students. Hostel rooms are a bit of a turn-off, but new hostels are being made, and the old ones are being renovated.
Faculty: I have been optimistic about everything in college except academics. Professors are good at research, they have great knowledge in their field, but some of them are highly ineligible in teaching. The art of teaching is missing in majority of the professors. Teaching is generally through slides in large classrooms. Speaking for myself, I have tried to study on my own as much as possible, listening in the class was rarely intriguing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Which college is better for B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering: IIT Delhi or IIT Bombay?
A:

The course outline of mechanical in IIT Delhi or IIT Bombay is similar and is quite well aligned with the course structure of top ranked international universities and the mechanical is one of the most desired and demanded branches in the IITs. The universities stand on similar QS ranking level and the facility and quality of infrastructure on average is almost the same in both the campuses, IITB has a lake, a pretty larger campus than that of IITD whereas IITD stands in a very desired location of Delhi ( in Hauz Khas) which stands very close to the international airport and various railway stations and is comparatively very green and clean than the outer Delhi. The trends of placement or students going for further studies differ very less and if you are really relying on placements to be a deciding factor, you'll still be in doubt. If we look at the opening and closing ranks of the department in both the colleges, the mechanical in IITB opens before it starts at IITD and also closes some numbers before, but the range is quite same. Many people choose IITB for its past trend or some local variables and similarly people also choose IITD if they aspire to go for civil services as Delhi is the hub for the preparation for UPSC and other civil services and again the accessibility of the nearby regions. I'd say both of the campus stand on the same level if the department is considered, the selection is totally depend on the individual depending on the local variables that affects him/her.
