NIT Hamirpur College review.

Infrastructure: The classrooms are very basic, and the canteen serves only limited items like samosas and tea. Medical facilities are absent. Hostel facilities are not up to the mark but ensure comfort for students. The mess serves hygienic food, and the water supply is well-managed.

Faculty: Most faculty members are caring and supportive, treating students with individual attention. However, a few teachers are strict and maintain a rigid, traditional mindset, which sometimes leads to gender bias and disciplinary conflicts. Overall, the faculties are good and approachable.

Perhaps the best college you can get at this rank.

Placements: The number of students getting placed in electrical department is usually 90 percent plus. However, the average package remains quite low, considering it is a circuital branch. Internship opportunities are decent. Many students secure research internships in nearby IITs, usually IIT Mandi, and some make it to DRDO or ISRO.

Infrastructure: Hostel facilities are decent, with some issues. The food is generally good with some exceptions. Major issues can be shortage of water during rainy season which causes a lot of problems. The issue is that there are mostly 4 seater rooms till third and single seater rooms available only for fourth-year students. The lab facilities are good, and there are more than enough opportunities for those who try to get them.

Faculty: Faculty members here are more than qualified however, there seems to be an issue in communication with students, which creates a lack of interest. Some younger faculty members are also quite helpful.

Other: Well, I decided to choose this branch because it is a circuital branch and allows me to choose either tech or core field, thus keeping both my options open.

NIT Hamirpur: An Honest Review.

Placements: We get eligible for internships during the 5th semester and for placements during the 7th semester. Companies like Tata Power, Reliance, Jio, Larsen and Toubro, Noida Power, Exide, Schneider Electric, Honda, Maruti, JSW, etc., come to the campus. The highest package in my branch was 15 Lacs, and the average package is around 8 Lacs. In 2024, around 70% of students got placed. My plan after getting my degree is to go for a master's degree. A less number of companies give internship opportunities compared to placements. Companies like Jio, Honda, Wells Fargo, Amazon (now banned us), and some more came for internships, but they selected a very small number of students, though they got PPOs.

Infrastructure: Hostels are less according to the number of students, so rooms are congested because they have more students. Rooms have beds, chairs, tables, and almirahs. For the first three years, students live in 3/4 occupancy rooms. Bathrooms are not maintained but are cleaned regularly. Mess food is average. There was no Wi-Fi facility in my hostel, but 2-3 hostels were having it, though the quality was not good. The library was big and contained many books. Medical facilities were good, and medicines were free. There were 4-5 canteens in the whole college.

Faculty: In each semester, we had 4 exams (2 quizzes, a midsem, and an end sem). There was a 75% attendance criteria in the college. The faculty-to-student ratio was poor, but it has improved as they have recruited some more teachers in my last year. But class strength is too big to learn in the class. Some teachers are very strict about attendance, and some are lenient. Faculty members also do not care much about the students. Most of the exams were easy to medium-difficult if you just studied 1-2 days for the exam. Some of the subjects of the course were relevant.

Other: The admission to this college is on the basis of the JEE Main examination. Then the students have to register themselves on the JoSAA platform, and they will be assigned this college on the basis of their choice and merit in the exam. There is no interview or GD for the admission process. NIT Hamirpur has 2 fests, one technical and one cultural. Nimbus (tech fest) is arranged in the month of March, and Hillfair (cultural fest) is arranged in the month of November. The college has a team for cricket, football, basketball, badminton, chess, and table tennis. There are many clubs and societies, both technical and cultural, like dance clubs, music, bhangra clubs, etc.

Beautiful engineering college.

Placements: 83% of electrical branch students get decent placement. Talking about the highest package, it is around 30 LPA, which is quite good. Top recruiting companies are TCS, Google, and many more. Around 10 to 20 students get an internship at a decent value at Google.

Infrastructure: Beautiful and green campus location, and there is Wi-Fi all over the campus, you will stay connected near the department building, hostel, and library. Talking about the library, it is quite good, I'll say, and provides every facility that is necessary. Hostel food is, I'll say, average, not too good, and there are medical facilities 24/7 and a health centre within the campus.

Faculty: Some teachers are helpful, while some are just teachers teaching for their salary, but they are highly qualified and have vast knowledge and many years of experience. Course is relevant, but not for the first year, which is the same for all branches. Semester exams are easy, and passing criteria are 40%.

It is a nice institute due to extraordinary placements.

Placements: From the 7th semester, we become eligible for college placements. Around 120 companies from the IT sector, core sector, banking sector, and some research companies visit the campus for placements. The highest package is 1.2 crore per annum off-campus. The average package is 12 LPA. My plan after B.Tech is to do a master's degree.

Infrastructure: Each room has a bed, table, chair, fan, and almirah. For the first 3 years, students will live in 3 or 4 occupancy rooms. Mess quality is average. Sometimes, the taste of the food is good, and sometimes, it is uneatable. Allotment of room is done based on CGPA criteria, and in 1st year, it is on the basis of first come. Hostels are very affordable.

Faculty: Professors are well-qualified, helpful, and knowledgeable. They all are PhD holders. The course curriculum is relevant to industry needs. Besides, one has to prepare oneself too. Each semester has 2 exams, mid-term and end-term. One needs to have at least 45% in order to pass the course.

Candidates who are appearing in the Class 12th / equivalent examination in 2025 irrespective of their age, are also eligible. Note: List of qualifying examination(QE): i). The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central/ State Board, such as the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi; etc. ii). Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University. iii). Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy iv). Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects. v). Any Public School/ Board/ University examination in India or any foreign country is recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). vi). I doubt you will be able to get admission into the branch you desire as your rank is very high. Unless you have an additional quota (Physical Disability) you will not be able to get the seat.
