This college is recommendable.
Placements: The students of my department don't get many placements. They have to find jobs on their own. The faculty members help the students at times. On an average, a student manages to find a job with 3.5 LPA. Around 7,000 students study in the college, and I have no idea about the exact figure.
Infrastructure: NIT Rourkela has superb infrastructure and facilities. Classrooms, Wi-Fi, labs, and medical facilities are well-maintained. Food available in the canteen is average. Hostel rooms are a bit congested for twin sharing. I didn't face any infrastructure related issues.
Faculty: The teachers are qualified and knowledgeable, but the method of teaching is still ancient. The teaching methods were mostly lecture and discussion based. The student-faculty ratio was 20:1. The curriculum was useful to a certain extent. It is around 10% helpful.

An insight into National Institute of Technology, Rourkela and its role in student development
Placements: The placements are really good as compared to other colleges nearby. The college has a well-established training and placement cell which focuses on bringing a variety of companies from various fields. Companies which come here are mostly from IT sector and provide an average salary of 3-3.5 lakhs per year. It may go even beyond depending on the student's abilities and personality.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is also good. Buildings, labs, halls of residence, mess facilities- everything is up to the mark. There are well-equipped facilities focussing on the overall development and growth of the college and its students, thus paving a way or path for the overall growth of students and faculty respectively.
Faculty: Most of the faculty members here in the college hold a PhD in their respective fields. They regularly answer the doubts, give clarification, and hold important discussions so that every student understands the matter being taught. Emphasis is given on the clear understanding of topics rather than parrot learning.

Other: It is an NIT, a reputed institute which is a dream of many aspiring class 12th students. But, it is not worth to be a part of NIT. The staff is so lazy that they don’t even work after you run behind them to get your work done. Though, they are very good in marketing as I have heard some unreal glories of this institute from those who have visited here never before. Practically saying, there are no rules in this institute. Everyone creates their own rules and troubles the students, especially the academic and administration staff. Besides being a central government institution, getting lots of fund, they don’t pay required fellowships and stipends to the research scholars and also the funds required for research works. Reversely, they take money from students as much as possible in the name of various fees and do not return in terms of facilities.

Q:   Is M.Tech Civil Engineering syllabus tough?
A:

This depends on your interest and learning potential. The syllabus that is tough for you might be very easy to grasp for your friend, who finds it interesting and intriguing. For example, you may find Structural Dynamics and Advanced Numerical Analysis taught in the first year of M.Tech Civil Engineering very tough because of the high mathematical aptitude and analytical theory that it deals with. But, for some other person, it might be easy-going and fun to study, as it gives you a channel to learn, explore, and experiment with something different.
