Thapar University BE/ BTech Highlights 2026
Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology BTech is a four-year undergraduate degree course, divided into eight semesters and offered in full-time mode. Admissions can be taken by presenting a valid JEE Main score. Class 12 performance is also taken into consideration. Thapar University BTech courses are spread across various specialisations. Some of the specialisations are, CSE, Biotechnology, ECE, Biomedical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, and more. The institute also offers an International Engineering Program in collaboration with University of Queensland in five specialisations. The specialisation determines the Thapar University total fee for BTech. In this course, candidates will spend two years of their curriculum at Thapar University and the rest are spent at University of Queensland. Thapar University BTech fees is different from all specialisations of both BE and BTech courses. Both courses have been divided into three groups where every specialisation in the same group has the same Thapar University fees. If candidates secure a minimum aggregate of over 75%, they are eligible for a tuition fee waiver in BME, CHE, CCA, CIE, ELE, EIC, MEE and MEC branches. Students have to pay the fee on per-semester basis. The fee structure includes many one-time and annually paid components. The admission fee has to be paid only once at the time of admissions. Other charges are tuition fee, development fee, etc. The university also provides hostel facilites for students. The accommodations are available in two/ three seater AC and Non-AC rooms. Candidates having subjects, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class 12 are eligible for merit-based admission at Thapar University for BE course. Thapar University conducted online counselling for BE admissions based on merit in three rounds. The first round for BTech admissions was based on JEE Main scores whereas the second was based on merit in Class 12.
Thapar University cut off JEE Main for BE and BTech courses has been released for Round 2. For students in the General AI category, the Round 2 closing ranks were in the range of 39069 and 55744. BE Electronics and Computer Engineering was the most competitive specialisation.

For BTech CSE, I would choose Thapar over LPU if you get CSE at Thapar and can comfortably afford it. Thapar has the stronger engineering reputation and generally better peer group and placement outcomes.

There’s no single “best” option among LPU, Galgotias, GLA, Thapar, and Sharda, as it depends on your budget, preferred specialisation, location, and career goals. It’s better to compare the course structure, faculty, internships, placements, and overall fees before deciding.

For CSE, I'd personally choose Thapar. Engineering reputation, peer group and placement opportunities are generally stronger. LPU is good too, especially if fees/scholarship is a major factor, but if budget isn't an issue, Thapar would be my pick.
