IIT Kanpur offers a two-year MTech programme across 15 specialisations. Admission to this course is based on GATE score followed by counselling. IIT Kanpur MTech Admission 2024: Eligibility, Fee and Selection
Offered across 15 specialisations, admission to IIT Kanpur is subject to a valid score obtained by the students in the GATE exam. Check out the eligibility and selection criteria for this below:
- Total tuition fee: INR 20,000 - INR 77,000
- Seat intake: 736*
- Eligibility: A bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (4-year course) or a master's degree in Science with marks not below the specified minimum. A relaxation of 5% aggregate or 0.5 CPI is offered to SC/ST/PwD category candidates on the minimum eligibility score.
- Selection: A valid GATE score is required for admission to the MTech programme in the case of regular (non-sponsored) candidates. The requirement of GATE score is waived off for the candidates with a BTech/BS (4-year) degree from IITs with a minimum overall CPI of 6.5 and a minimum CPI of 8.0 in the last two years in BTech/BS (4-year).
- Admission Process: Admission offers for GATE-qualified candidates are displayed on the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP). Students must register at the COAP portal to view and accept their offers. Registration on the COAP portal is free.

IIT Kanpur MTech Admission Process 2024: How to Apply?
The application fee for GATE is non-refundable and non-transferable. Check the steps below to known how to apply for GATE:
1: Visit the official website of GATE and register.
2: Fill the application form with relevant personal, educational, and other details in the empty fields.
3: Upload the required documents in the right size and format.
4: Pay the GATE application fee through a convenient online payment mode.
5: Accept the declaration and click on the 'Submit' button to complete the application process.

Documents required:
The list of documents to be submitted at the time of GATE application for MTech is given below:
- Image of candidate's signature
- Passport-size photo with white background
- Scanned copy of Category certificate (for SC/ST) in pdf format
- Scanned copy of PwD Certificate (if applicable) in pdf format
- Scanned copy of Certificate of Dyslexia (if applicable) in pdf format
- Scanned copy of a valid photo Identity proof such as Aadhaar-UID (preferable)/ Passport/ PAN Card/ Voter's ID/ Driving License (Candidates must carry the same ID (in original) to the examination hall)
Followed by the GATE exam, candidates are required to register on the COAP portal, on which the list of GATE-qualified candidates is released. Once the GATE process is complete, students are also required to register on IIT Kanpur website.
On the official website of IIT Kanpur, MTech application fee is INR 500 for General, EWS, OBC and OBC-NCL candidates and INR 250 for SC/ST and all DAP candidates. The application fee is waived for candidates in the 'Foreign National' category.
