For last year, the closing rank for BTech in Civil Engineering was 6556 which is very close to this range. This was for General category under all India quota. Unless the candidate belongs to some other category or domicile, one cannot afford to score less than this. With this rank, there is a probability of getting admission however since, the cut offs keep changing year on year, it is advisable to try to score better ranks to increase your chances of getting admission in IIT.

For 2025, cut off was 7774 for General category candidates in All India quota for BTech (Hons) in Civil Engineering in IIT Kharagpur. 

The B.Tech in civil engineering at IIT Kharagpur and IIT Bombay is equally good. 1. Raking: In the 2022 rankings, IIT Kharagpur is ranked fifth, while IIT Bombay is ranked third by NIRF. 2. Fees: Both institutions charge about Rs. 8 Lacs as their course fee for B.Tech CE. However, the hostel fee at IIT Bombay is 2.8 Lacs, compared to 1.32 Lacs at IIT Kharagpur. 3. Facilities: Both universities have amazing facilities. The hostel and campus at IIT Bombay are better and more student-friendly than those at IIT Kharagpur. 4. Popularity: The CE branch of IIT K is more popular than IIT B. 5. Placement: The placement rate at IIT-K is better than that at IIT-B for civil engineering. Almost 95 percent of CE graduates were placed at IIT-K in previous batches. The IIT-B placement rate for the CE branch was close to 85%. Therefore, from a placement perspective, IIT Kharagpur is better than IIT Bombay.

The course-wise placement details for the Class of 2025 are yet to be released on the official website of IIT Kharagpur. As per the media reports, over 400 recruiters visited the IIT Kharagpur campus for 2025 placements and offered over 1,800 job offers, including 409 PPOs and 25 international offers to the students. The IIT Kharagpur salary details for 2025 placements have not been released officially. As per the data fetched from multiple media reports, the IIT Kharagpur highest package offered so far during 2025 placements was above INR 2.14 crore per annum. As per official brochure, 1,811 offers were made to the 2025 batch.
