But the write-up will be there to explain your model, why you have used this material, what inspired you, the story behind it, etc. Give reasons why this is, and how this is authentic and original. Why the Write-Up Is Important?
NIFTEE Situation Test Write is very important because of the following:
- Clear Picture of Thought Process: Write up gives a clear image of your thought process that your model alone cannot explain to the examiner. It will help you understand your thoughts and ideas. So the write-up needs to be expressive.
- Insight into your Thinking: It shows how deeply you can think. The examiner can get the idea that you can not only create a model but also communicate it through your words. It shows that you have vision.
-
Boosts Marks: The write-up contributes to your overall performance score. A good model with a poor write-up can lower your chances.
How to Write NIFT Situation Test Write-Up?
The following points should be kept in mind while writing the write-up for the Model:
1. Always write the Title/ Question that you are attempting.
This is to be done because there are 2-3 Questions in the Situation Test, and it can also have sub-parts.
E.g., the question is Design a badge for Women's Environment or Earth Day. So mention the Title on which you have made your 3D model. You can either write the Question or write the title as ‘Badge: Earth Day’ or Badge for Women Entrepreneur.
Suppose you have opted for Question 1, 3rd part, then mention it like this: Q1 (iii): Badge for Women Entrepreneur. Make sure to specify the question that you are opting.
2. Write about Concept or Inspiration of your Model.
The participating institutes of NIFTs offer a 4-year B.FTech programme. Admission to the programme is based on GAT scores.
- The NIFT GAT question paper for the programme will be approximately 180 minutes and will be bilingual.
- Candidates will have the option to take the exam either in English or Hindi.
- The question type will be multiple-choice.
- The question paper will have a total of 150 questions.
- Questions will be asked from the following FIVE sections - Communication Ability and Comprehension, Case Study, Quantitative Ability, Analytical & Logical Ability, and GK and Current Affairs. The mode of NIFT exam for the GAT paper will be a computer-based test (or CBT).
There is a difference between Inspiration and Model. Whenever a question is given to you, and you are asked to create anything, you will use your imagination and inspiration to make something. For example, you have to design a café, so you can take inspiration from a fort or a palace; if you have to design a bakery, you can take inspiration from Doughnuts, shakes, cookies, and use the theme to design your bakery. Walls can have pictures of doughnuts, cupcakes, Tables, and chairs can have shapes of cookies. So this is the inspiration. So mention this in the write-up.

3. Explain the Elements used in the 3D Model
Explain briefly about the elements used in the model created by you. Try to relate it to a story. There must be a meaning for every element you are using. Try to justify that in your write-up. If you are using jute to make the cushions for the bakery, then give a story behind it.
For example, you can say that ‘Jute is used because it will boost the rural development and is sustainable and environmentally friendly. It is a symbol of environmental hope and rural prosperity.
4. Write about Creative Material Uses
Clearly mention the materials that you have used. Try to use 3D techniques. Use material creatively. Use Origami Techniques, Paper folding Techniques, Kirigami Techniques, Clay molding techniques, and fan folding techniques. Mention that: I have used Origami techniques to make a pigeon for this element; I have used Kirigami to make the heart used in the card.
- Use fan folding techniques creatively to make badges, flowers, sun, etc.
- Clay molding: Use this; it will show your creativity. Use a pin to give textures to the clay.
5. Explain the Features/Mechanisms
Explain the functionality or mechanism that you have used in the 3D model. For example, if you are making a cart, then you will be using wheels for the cart. You can skip this if your model does not have any mechanism.
6. Write About the Theme
Introduce your theme and the reason for choosing that theme. Explain how the elements used represent the theme and how your material relates to the theme. Show the purpose behind it. For example, if you're designing a room for a teenage girl, your theme can be Barbie or Snowwhite, Harry Potter, and your source will be Barbie doll, Harry Potter characters, etc.
Tip: Doodle your design first, on the rough paper given to you, and keep it along with the write-up. It shows your originality.
Tips to Write an Effective NIFT Write-Up:
- Write clearly. Do not write vaguely and stick to your theme. Be theme-oriented
There should be no grammatical errors.
- Use simple language. Do not use very complex words.
- Write in points, not in story form.
