The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) conducts the online Design Aptitude Test (DAT) in order to offer admission to aspirants in design programs offered by the college. To secure admission in design programs at the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), aspirants have to give the DAT, and those who clear this admission round then need to appear for the interviews and portfolio round. 

UPES DAT is an online test. Aspirants need to take UPES DAT 2025 to secure admission in MDes and BDes courses on offer by the School of Design Studies (SoDS) at UPES.

How to apply for UPES DAT 2025?

Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria for their respective programs can apply by following the steps given below.

2. Get registered by entering personal details like name, email ID, and phone number
3. Upon registration, you will have to fill in the rest of the form - personal, academic, and contact details
4. Upload documents as per the specified format
5. Pay the application fee
6. Submit the form.  

UPES DAT 2025 Eligibility Criteria 

The eligibility criteria for BDes and MDes course admissions at UPES are different. Candidates can go through the detailed eligibility criteria for both courses below:

Eligibility Criteria for BDes

The design programs are offered by the School of Design Studies (SoDS).

Candidates are eligible for admission to the BDes programs if they have secured at least 50% marks in their Class X and Class XII exams. However, if aspirants do not want to appear for UPES DAT 2025 exam, then they are eligible to secure admission in the BDes course offered at UPES if they fulfill either of the following eligibility criteria:

• Board Exam Merit: Secured at least 65% marks in Class X and Class XII.
• UCEED/ JEE Main Merit: Secured at least 50% in Class X and Class XII as well as cleared JEE Main or UCEED exam.

Eligibility Criteria for M.Des

Candidates are eligible for admission to the MDes programs at UPES without taking the entrance exam if they have a valid CEED score.

For M.Des, candidates should meet the following criteria:

• Secured a minimum of 50% aggregate in Class X and Class XII.
• Pursued BTech/BE in any discipline/BFA (4 years duration)/BArch/BDes/ BSc in Design (3 years) plus one year of foundation/ Applied Arts with at least 50% marks.

Age Criteria

Only candidates whose date of birth falls on or after October 1, 2000, are eligible to apply for admission. Date of Birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/University certificate only will be considered authentic.

The  University of Petroleum and Energy Studies will issue admit cards to all successfully registered candidates. The admit card will be released online and has to be downloaded from the university admission portal.

The admit card will carry details like the roll number, date and time of the exam, and personal details of the candidate, including name, and photographs.

On the day of the exam, along with the admit card, the candidate also needs to bring with them a valid photo ID proof.

It is recommended that the candidate downloads the admit card without waiting for the last few hours leading up to the exam.

Candidates need to follow the steps below to take part in the admission cycle of UPES DAT 2025.

Step 1: Fill out the UPES DAT Application Form

Candidates have to duly fill out their UPES DAT 2025 application form online by entering details like personal, academic, and contact details. Also, upload documents and pay the application fee.

Step 2: Get UPES DAT Admit Card

UPES DAT 2025 admit card will be made available online on the official website of the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES). 

Step 2: Give UPES DAT

Aspirants need to appear for the UPES DAT exam in order to secure admission to design programs offered at UPES. UPES DAT is conducted in online mode only. In the UPES DAT exam, aspirants need to solve objective-type questions in a 1-hour duration.

Step 3: Appear for Interview & Portfolio Round

Candidates who have cleared the UPES DAT exam need to appear for the interview round. On the same day, aspirants also need to present their work portfolio.

Requirements in the Portfolio are as follows:

• Drawing, sketching, and rendering by hand using a variety of techniques and media, including colour markers and colour pencils (10-15 pages)
• Digital work (software) – Drawing, sketching, and rendering using digital media, tools, and techniques (2-dimensional, 3-dimensional)
• Physical Model/Prototype - fabrication/construction

Step 4: Check UPES DAT Result

Once the entire admission process is over, UPES declares the merit list of shortlisted candidates for admission in BDes/MDes programmes on its official website. Candidates can check their UPES DAT result on the official website of the college by filling in their application numbers.
