In an urge to promote entrepreneurship among students, Dr. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh has decided to build up ‘Start-up’ centres in Greater Noida. The decision was taken in a meeting held at AKTU Lucknow campus on Monday.
According to latest information, the newly set up centres will receive an initial one-time grant of Rs.50 Lakh. AKTU authorities are also planning to set up innovation and incubation centres which will run under the start-up centres.

AKTU has 900 colleges running under its aegis across the state. Out of these 900 colleges, 168 are located in Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar. The AKTU affiliated colleges offer professional programmes in various fields which includes Engineering, Management, Computer Sciences and Medical and Health Sciences.
Earlier the University authorities suggested on creating the innovation and incumbent centers across UP. This was to make the students work for the betterment and upliftment of rural areas. They also suggested to set up Excellence centres that will monitor and accelerate the growth of all the start-up centres. The revenue generated from UPSEE entrance examination every year amounts to Rs.50-60 Crore. The university authorities decided to utilize the amount as funds for the development of affiliated colleges and setting up of new centres.
The University also plans to open similar start-up centres in Lucknow as well.
