Q:   What is the difference between the CAET and JEE Advanced exam for IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi admission?
A:

CAET 2025, or the Combined Admission Entrance Test 2025, is an entrance examination for admission to undergraduate (Bachelor of Technology) programs at the IIT Delhi – Abu Dhabi campus. It is open to:

  1. UAE Nationals
  2. Indian expatriates who have completed grades 8-12 in the UAE
  3. International students (non-Indian and non-UAE Nationals)

On the other hand, JEE Advanced 2025 is an entrance exam conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for admission to IITs in India. Indian nationals who qualify JEE Main and rank among the top 2,50,000 are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. Non-Indian nationals are exempt from appearing for JEE Main to be eligible for JEE Advanced.

Q:   What subjects do I need to prepare for CAET?
A:

CAET 2025 consists of three subject areas: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The detailed syllabus is available for download on the official website at abudhabi.iitd.ac.in. Scoring in all three subjects is mandatory for admission at IIt Delhi Abu Dhabi campus.

A candidate is declared qualified in CAET exam if they meet the following criteria:

1) Their marks in each subject part is higher than or equal to:

  • the mean plus standard deviation of positive scores in the respective subject part in the respective session OR
  • 10% (8 marks out of 80),

whichever is lower,

AND

2) His/her aggregate marks in all three subject parts put together is higher than or equal to:

  • the mean plus standard deviation of positive scores in aggregate marks in the respective session OR
  • 35% (84 marks out of 240),

whichever is lower.

These criteria may be lowered in case of necessity after the examination while deciding on final scores.

Provisional Total CAET Score (PCAET Score): The total marks obtained by each candidate are transformed into a score ranging from 35 to about 100. This score is called the provisional CAET Score (PCAET). It is the normalised score that represents the relative performance of all those who qualified in session 1 of CAET 2025. The calculation procedure for the provisional CAET (PCAET) score is described below.

Provisional CAET Score Calculations

Calculation of the provisional CAET Score (PCAET)

Final CAET Score (FCAET Score): After all sessions of CAET 2025 are completed, the marks of each candidate are normalised based on the mean of aggregate marks 𝜇 𝑔 and standard deviation 𝜎 𝑔 of positive aggregate marks of all candidates appearing in all sessions of CAET 2025, as follows:

Final CAET Score Calculation

Calculation of Final CAET (FCAET) scores

CAET 2025 Rank List

A separate final CAET rank list is prepared based on the final CAET scores, for the following two categories of nationalities of candidates:

  1. UAE Nationals
  2. Indian Expatriates & International Candidates.

The final merit list of candidates in each category (UAE nationals; International candidates / Indian expatriates) is prepared based on the FCAET scores of the candidates, and seat allocation and allocation of branches is done based on the final merit lists.

Tie-breaking for CAET rank list: If two candidates have the same FCAET score up to 2 decimal digits, the following tie-break rules will be used:

  1. If two candidates have the same FCAET score up to 2 decimal digits, the candidate with higher subject marks in Mathematics is assigned a higher rank.
  2. If the above step (a) fails to break the tie and the two candidates also have equal marks in mathematics, the candidate with higher subject marks in physics is assigned a higher rank.
  3. If the above step (b) also fails to break the tie, the two candidates are assigned the same rank.
