Q:   Who can give GATE exam?
A:

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level examination conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for admission to Master of Engineering (ME), Master of Technology (MTech), and direct PhD programs in engineering, architecture, and related branches of science.

The eligibility criteria for GATE include passing a bachelor's degree in engineering or technology or basic Science from a recognised university, and meeting the specific eligibility criteria for the discipline you wish to pursue. Candidates from India and other countries can apply for GATE, but they must meet the eligibility criteria. The exam is conducted online and is offered in 30 subjects. Candidates can check details about course-wise eligibility criteria for GATE exam at www.shiksha.com/gate-exam.

Q:   What is the eligibility for GATE examination?
A:

Candidates with a bachelor's degree in engineering/technology/architecture or a master's degree in science/mathematics/statistics or computer Science are eligible to apply for GATE exam. Besides, candidates who are pursuing final degree are also eligible to apply for GATE. For more details, candidates can refer to the following article - https://www.shiksha.com/engineering/gate-exam

Q:   Can I get into IIT with 40 marks in GATE?
A:

No, a GATE score of 40 marks is relatively low for IITs and popular branches like CSE, ME, EE, and ME. The score is considered below average. However, if you score around 40 marks in GATE, you can opt for a branch or institution with less competition. Otherwise, you can attempt GATE next year with more practice and revision.

For more details regarding the admission criteria at any particular institute, the candidate is advised to refer to the websites of that institute. Those candidates opting for two paper combinations for GATE 2025 have a primary choice of paper as their default choice. The second choice of paper has to be chosen from the allowed combinations. Listed combinations are only allowed, and those that are not listed are not allowed. For more detail Read: https://www.shiksha.com/engineering/gate-exam-pattern.
