A student of Mushtifund Aryaan Higher Secondary School, Ravindra Abhay Kudchadkar is the state topper in GCET 2018 exam. Ravindra emerged as the second topper by securing 195 out of 225 marks in the engineering entrance exam, results for which were announced on May 14. Ravindra has also emerged as the top scorer in Chemistry with 70 out of 75 marks.

Being able to crack GCET and bagging a top rank in the state is no doubt a moment of proud for both Ravindra and his family. But, JEE Advanced 2018 is what he is vying for. The exam is scheduled to be conducted on May 20. It is his dream to be able to seek admission into one of the IITs and then get a job with a good package.

Besides being excellent in academics, Ravindra has also participated and won various extracurricular activities. Shiksha spoke at lengths with Ravindra to know his future plans and preparation strategy. Furthermore, the topper also shared a few tips for future GCET aspirants.  Read the full interview below.

Q. Congratulations on your achievement. How are you feeling being the GCET 2018 topper? Did you expect it?

A.

Thanks. I am really delighted with the news. I was already expecting to be in the first three toppers. But now, I am vying for JEE Advanced and cracking advanced would be the happiest moment for all of us.

Q. What was your rank and score in JEE Main 2018? Can you also share your GCET 2018 rank and score?

A.

JEE Main 2018 Rank: 4314

JEE Main 2018 score: 212/360

GCET 2018 score: 195/225

GCET 2018 Rank: 2nd

Q. Q. How long have you been preparing for?

A.

My preparation began the moment I cleared class X. It has been 2 years since when I have been preparing to crack JEE. After JEE, GCET is one of the exams that I wished to crack. But the main goal is JEE Advanced. Clearing advanced, I will be able to seek admission into the IITs. If in case I could not score well in advanced, I will take admission in some good engineering college in Goa through GCET.

Q. What was your preparation strategy for the exam? What is the minimum time frame needed to prepare for both the exams?

A.

Besides devoting 4 hours daily to the syllabus, I have been answering many mock tests as well. As I said earlier, JEE Mains was the target. Now when I have managed to clear Mains, I look forward to JEE Advanced. There was nothing special that I did in order to prepare for Goa CET. While preparing for JEE, all possible topics were covered. So there was nothing extra that was required to put into for GCET and all the engineering exams that I appeared for.

Minimum time frame required to prepare for any engineering entrance exam is 2 years. Rest depends on the candidate’s grasping power.

Q. Which institute are you vying for and what is the course you aim to pursue?

A.

I wish to pursue BTech in Computer science or Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai. Rest depends on my JEE Advanced scores.

Q. What are your expectations from your dream institute?

A.

First I would like to complete my course and then get into some good firm or PSU. I would also like to meet some of the brightest minds of the country.

Q. Have you taken any other exam/s besides JEE Main, JEE Advanced and GCET?

A.

I also took Manipal engineering exam; MUOET, BITSAT and NEET.

Q. Do you think coaching is required to crack JEE & GCET?

A.

It depends on the grasping power and caliber of a student. I would say that yes, coaching classes do help a lot. They guide you in the right direction and plan strategy for your exam preparation. They also help you prepare for the exam by making you solve the PYPs and mocks.

Q. Any tips for aspirants taking the GCET next year?

A.

Long term focus, dedication, passion and hard work are the four elements which can help you to achieve your goals and fulfill your dreams.

Q. So, tell us something about your family?

A.

My Father is a businessman and mother is a home maker. My sister is planning to appear for SSC examination this June. We are a nuclear family living in Chandor.

Q. What plans for the future? What do you want to become?

A.

I want to finish my engineering and then contribute to the human race or society. All this depends on my achievements after completing BTech.

Q. Tell us about yourself and your hobbies?

A.

An 18 year old who completed his schooling from Loyola High School. I was an all-rounder in school, winning awards in both academics and sports. I have participated and won many quizzes, elocution, table tennis matches and various other sports. In my spare time I like to watch Hollywood movies, play basketball or badminton.
