Soon after JEE Advanced 2017 concluded on May 21, various coaching institutes started releasing the JEE Advanced 2017 exam analysis.  JEE Advanced 2017 comprised of two papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 was held from 9 am to 12 pm. Paper 2 commenced at 2 pm and concluded at 5 pm.

While the exam pattern on JEE Advanced keeps changing every year, this year it was similar to the paper pattern of JEE Advanced 2016.  Both the papers comprised of questions from three subjects – Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. JEE Advanced 2017 exam analysis by FIITJEE:

Analysis of Paper 1:

  • Maximum marks: 183
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • The booklet had 36 printed pages and 54 questions in total.
  • There were three parts of Paper-1. Marks for each subject was 61.
  • In each part there were three sections- Section 1 (Maximum marks - 28), Section 2 (Maximum marks - 15) and Section 3 (Maximum marks 18)
  • Section 1 had 7 questions with four options in which one or more than one options were correct. Marking scheme in this section is +4 in case all options are correct, +1 for each correct response, 0 marks for no response and -2 for all other cases. Maximum marks for this section was 28.
  • Section 2 had 5 questions with correct response being a single digit integer from 0 to 9 both inclusive. The making scheme was +3 for the correct response and 0 marks in all other cases. Maximum marks for this section was 15.
  • Section 3 had 6 questions of matching type. This section contained two tables (each having 3 columns and 4 rows). Based on each question, there were 4 options in which only one option was correct.  With correct response being a single digit integer from 0 to 9 both inclusive. Marking scheme in this section was +3 if the correct option is marked, 0 marks if none of the options is marked and -1 in all other cases. Maximum marks for this section was 18.

 Immediate reaction of students after Paper-1:

  • They found the overall level of paper moderate level but not easy. Chemistry was reported tougher compared to Maths & Physics.
  • Distribution of questions:

Physics- 49% questions from class XII & 51 % from Class XI.

Chemistry- 46% questions from class XII & 54 % from Class XI

Mathematics- 51% questions from class XII & 49 % from Class XI

  • No mistakes reported till now.
  • Total no. of questions (54 questions) remains same as last year however total marks of Paper-1 has changed from 186 to 183 marks this year.

No, candidates can not raise objections in JEE Adv result. The facility to raise objection is provided only in the answer key. It is clearly mentioned in the IIT JEE advanced 2026 information brochure that any request to re-evaluate in result will not be entertained under any circumstances.

The number of questions in each subjects are generally not same, but the total number of questions mostly ranges from 17 to 18 across all three subjects in both Paper 1 and 2. No, same questions never get repeated in IIT JEE exam. However, questions with similar concepts can find places in the exam. The question paper of JEE Advanced is prepared considering the syllabus and exam pattern.

You will not be eligible for admission as preparatory ranks are not considered under round 1. Since you have already qualified to appear for JEE (Advanced), all you need to do is meet the second criterion and apply for round 2, which will be only conducted if seats from round 1 remain vacant.

Yes, you can still get admission in Round 2 if you meet eligibility criteria to appear in JEE (Advanced) and have a valid JEE (Mains) rank. Also, you must have scored 60% or above in class 12th. For SC/ST/PwD category students, 55% or above is required.

However, once the seat is allotted, candidates will need to pay approximately INR 35,000 (less for reserved category) as a seat acceptance fee and around INR 20,000 as partial admission fees. No, candidates have to carry the printout of their JEE Advanced admit card downloaded from the website to appear in the exam. Soft copies will not be accepted.

Mock test released by organising IITs are very useful in understanding the pattern and difficulty level of exam. However, solving official mock test paper only is not advised. It is recommended to solve additional mock test to score good marks in JEE Advanced.

Absolutely NO. Exact same questions have never been repeated in JEE Advanced exam. However, questions having same concepts do come.
