CLAT 2026 Syllabus is the most important part of CLAT Exam. The CLAT 2026 Syllabus consists of five sections: i.e., English Language, Legal Reasoning, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques. Candidates must only rely on the CLAT syllbaus that is released by Consortium. The Consortium released the syllabus of CLAT 2026 along with the CLAT 2026 Notification.

As per the CLAT Pattern, there will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer. Candidates who are looking forward to appear for CLAT 2026 are advised to check the syllabus for CLAT 2026 at consortiumofnlus.ac.in or below. CLAT Syllabus 2026 - Overview

Candidates can check the details on CLAT 2026 below:

  • Skills Tested - Comprehension and reasoning skills and abilities of the candidate.
  • Prior knowledge of legal subjects - The CLAT Exam will test whether the candidate has the aptitude and skills required for legal education, rather than test his knowledge of legal subjects. That being said, prior knowledge may be useful for answering questions in the Current Affairs section.   
  • Sections - The question paper will have FIVE sections - 1) English Language 2) Current Affairs, including General Knowledge 3) Legal Reasoning 4) Logical Reasoning, and 5) Quantitative Techniques.
  • Duration of the exam - 2 hours 
  • Types of questions asked - Multiple-choice questions
  • Number of questions - 120
  • Marking scheme - 1 mark to be awarded for a correct answer; 0.25 marks will be deducted for an incorrect answer.

- Intended to test your depth of understanding of issues and events of significance, rather than mere fact or trivia-based knowledge of such issues and events.

Questions may ask you to:

  • Fill in missing information in blanks
  • Identify causes and consequences of the events described in the passages
  • Answer questions about personalities and events associated with the events in the passage
  • Answer questions about awards, recognitions, and other events of significance associated with persons mentioned in the passage.
  • Answer questions related to laws and other events of legal significance (such as judgments) associated with events mentioned in the passage.
  • Questions may also relate to matters associated with events mentioned in the passage. 

While the focus will be on recent and current events, some questions with historical significance may also be asked. These questions will gauge your understanding of the causes of such events.

CLAT 2026 Reference material for GK & Current Affairs:

The CLAT 2026 Current Affairs and GK section, as mentioned above, will require the candidate to read a given passage and find the answers. So, there is no need to memorize things and bank on rote learning to score well in the section. Instead, you must learn how to quickly read and comprehend a passage and develop skills to extract the gist of the topic. The quantitive section for CLAT 2026 will be of the 10th standard, so if you put your mind to it, you can score handsomely in the section.     • However, general awareness of contemporary legal and moral issues may help you better apply general principles or propositions to the given fact scenarios.
  • Estimated time needed to read a passage - 5-7 minutes.  
  • Questions - Each passage will be followed by a series of questions  
Skills tested
  • Identify and infer the rules and principles set out in the passage
  • Apply such rules and principles to various fact situations; and
  • Understand how changes to the rules or principles may alter their application to various fact situations.

Questions will be based on:

- News articles and books associated with topics of law

- Certain passages will be created specifically for the exam

- the candidate has to find the facts and applicable rules. Until 2019, the proposition and factual context were clearly presented.

- The purpose is not to test the knowledge of law but the application of rules to a factual context based on the constraints presented to you.

CLAT Reference Material

The Legal Aptitude, along with the Current Affairs and GK, carries the maximum 25 per cent weightage. So, there is extra motivation to do well in the section. As mentioned above, you don't need any knowledge of the law to do well in the section. So, you needn't bother much about the legal side of the topics included in the section. Instead, you must work on developing the skill sets required to become a lawyer, i.e., learn how to apply general principles or propositions to the given fact scenarios.   • Critically analyze patterns of reasoning, and assess how conclusions may depend on particular premises or evidence;
  • Infer what follows from the passage and apply these inferences to new situations;
  • Draw relationships and analogies, identify contradictions and equivalence and assess the effectiveness of arguments. 
Question areas

Sources include opinion and editorial pieces from newspapers and magazines, and essays on moral philosophy available online and in various books. Some passages will be created specifically for the exam.

The only way to master this section is through lots of practice. Simply reading and trying to rote-learn things won't cut the ice as far as Logical reasoning is concerned. You don't have to worry. In case you have forgotten your ID and password, which is pretty much normal. You can go and click on the forgot password tab in the registration window. You will receive the mail and then you have to reset your password. Once day you will be able to login.

Yes, the application form for CLAT was released long back in August. Those who have not filled the form yet must understand that there is no right day to fill the form. You should fill is as soon as possible. Because if you miss it you have to wait one more year unnecessarily to appear in the exam.

The last date to submit the application form is October 31, 2025. It must be noted that the consortium will open the application correction window after that. Sometimes the consortium do extend the last date for registration but it is better to fill the form way before and why to wait.

Yes, you can fill out the CLAT Application Form in phases. There is an option to save in every step. However, it will be better if you fill the form in one go. For this, you should keep all the documents ready in hand. See if you fill the form in one go you don't have to worry about it.
