The Consortium of NLUs is likely to release the CLAT Notification 2027 anytime soon. Candidates looking forward to appearing in CLAT Exam 2027 must note that the official notice will carry all important details about the CLAT Exam. CLAT Exam Date 2027 is expected to be December 6, 2026. The CLAT 2027 Syllabus will also be published along with the CLAT Notification.

Candidates who will be appearing for CLAT Exam must start preparing for the exam. The CLAT Syllabus 2027 includes five subjects: English Language, Legal Reasoning, Current Affairs including GK, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques. As per the CLAT Exam Pattern 2027, there will be negative marking in the exam. 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.  Candidates can download the CLAT Syllabus PDF online. CLAT Syllabus 2027 - Overview

Candidates can check the details on CLAT 2027 below:

  • Why the exam is conducted - Comprehension and reasoning skills and abilities of the candidate.
  • Do I need to have legal subject knowledge- The CLAT Exam will test whether the candidate has the aptitude and skills required for legal education, rather than test his knowledge of legal subjects. That being said, prior knowledge may be useful for answering questions in the Current Affairs section.   
  • No. of sections - The question paper will have FIVE sections - 1) English Language 2) Current Affairs, including GK 3) Legal Reasoning 4) Logical Reasoning, and 5) Quantitative Techniques.
  • Duration of the exam - 2 hours 
  • Types of questions asked - Multiple-choice questions
  • Number of questions - 120
  • Marking scheme - 1 mark to be awarded for a correct answer; 0.25 marks will be deducted for an incorrect answer.

The question paper of the CLAT 2027 exam will carry different weightage for all subjects, therefore, the candidates taking the exam need to prepare well. Candidates can refer to the table given below to get an idea about weightage and marks distribution:

Questions may ask you to:

  • Answer questions about awards, recognitions, and other events of significance associated with persons mentioned in the passage.

While the focus will be on recent and current events, some questions with historical significance may also be asked. These questions will gauge your understanding of the causes of such events.

The CLAT 2027 Current Affairs and GK section, as mentioned above, will require the candidate to read a given passage and find the answers. So, there is no need to memorize things and bank on rote learning to score well in the section. Instead, you must learn how to quickly read and comprehend a passage and develop skills to extract the gist of the topic.     • However, general awareness of contemporary legal and moral issues may help you better apply general principles or propositions to the given fact scenarios.
  • Estimated time needed to read a passage - 5-7 minutes.  
  • Questions - Each passage will be followed by a series of questions  
Skills tested
  • Identify and infer the rules and principles set out in the passage
  • Apply such rules and principles to various fact situations; and
  • Understand how changes to the rules or principles may alter their application to various fact situations.

- Certain passages will be created specifically for the exam

- the candidate has to find the facts and applicable rules. Until 2019, the proposition and factual context were clearly presented.

- The purpose is not to test the knowledge of law but the application of rules to a factual context based on the constraints presented to you.

Instead, you must work on developing the skill sets required to become a lawyer, i.e., learn how to apply general principles or propositions to the given fact scenarios.
