Shiksha: When did you start preparing for the CAT exam?

Shaivi: I started preparing for the exam at the beginning of February 2024. This gave me ample time to work on my basics while maintaining a full-time job.

Shiksha: Can you walk us through your section-wise strategy?

Shaivi: It is important for an individual to develop a personalized strategy when preparing for competitive exams. Initially, one should focus on all sections to assess strengths and areas for improvement, and then pivot accordingly. In my case, I found myself most comfortable with the VARC section, which I leveraged as my strength. Through consistent and rigorous practice, I then dedicated additional effort to Quantitative Aptitude (QA) and Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR). As a non-engineer, I was competing with individuals for whom Quant was a natural strength, which made it essential for me to invest significant effort in mastering this area. Ensuring a strong grasp of the fundamentals and committing to extensive practice were key to my success.

Shiksha: Which books did you refer to for CAT preparation?

Shaivi: I referred to the online coaching material provided by iQuanta alone for my preparation.

Shiksha: Did you join any coaching institute?

Shaivi: I enrolled in iQuanta for my CAT preparation, and it has been an invaluable part of my journey. The platform and faculty are exceptional, offering a comprehensive learning experience. The 24/7 doubt-solving feature is particularly impressive, ensuring continuous support. Additionally, the two-way teaching approach, combining application-based classes with live sessions, has been particularly effective. iQuanta has played a crucial role in my success, providing the right resources and guidance throughout my preparation.

Shiksha: How many mock tests did you attempt during your preparation?

Shaivi: I completed approximately 30 mock exams during my preparation. Mocks are a critical component of the preparation process, as they provide valuable insights into your current performance level. Taking mocks in a time-controlled environment is especially important, as it helps you gauge your ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and remain focused under pressure. They allow you to identify your strengths, refine strategies, and pinpoint areas for improvement. Regularly analyzing mock results also helps track progress and adjust your approach, ensuring you are continuously moving toward your goal.

Shiksha: What was your exam day strategy?

Shaivi: My strategy on exam day was to remain calm and composed, avoiding any stress or panic. I refrained from studying on the day before the exam and the morning of, as I believed it was essential to enter the exam fully rested and prepared. Ensuring a good night’s sleep and having a light, nutritious meal were priorities to maintain mental and physical well-being. Bringing your best, most balanced self to the examination centre is crucial. Staying calm and composed is the key to performing at your best in high-pressure situations.

Shiksha: Who is your role model?

Shaivi: My role model is my father, whose unparalleled knowledge and unwavering belief have inspired me constantly. I aspire to reach the same wisdom and inner peace he achieved. His continuous commitment to self-improvement, regardless of life's challenges, motivates me to keep pushing forward. I look up to him for the strength and resilience he exemplifies guiding me in my personal and professional journey.

Regularly taking mock tests is crucial, as they help you simulate exam conditions, improve time management, and pinpoint areas that need refinement. On exam day, avoid last-minute cramming—ensure adequate rest, eat a light meal, and maintain a calm mindset to perform your best under pressure. Finally, draw inspiration from those who motivate you; for me, my father’s resilience and constant self-improvement have been a source of strength and guidance throughout my journey.
