IPMAT verbal ability preparation requires thorough practice of vocabulary, grammar concepts, reading comprehension, sentence correction, etc. Many students think that they ace English and don’t do the required practice for this section. However, if exam aspirants really want a good cut-off, then they need proper preparation for the verbal ability section.

The IPMAT exam (Integrated Program in Management Aptitude Test) is a national-level management entrance examination conducted once a year by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). The exam consists of three sections; Verbal Ability (MCQ), Quantitative Ability (MCQ), and Quantitative Aptitude (Short Answers).

IPMAT Verbal Ability syllabus 2027 

The IPMAT verbal ability syllabus includes four key topics:

  • Reading comprehension

  • Vocabulary

  • Grammar

  • Verbal/Logical Reasoning

These subsections make a total weightage of 45 multiple-choice questions, which is 50% of the IPMAT exam weightage. Each question is worth four marks, awarding +4 for each correct answer and -1 for each wrong answer. For each unattempted question, no marks will be awarded or deducted. 

Note: Unlike the QA short answers section, the Verbal Ability section has negative marking. Therefore, avoid random guessing and mark the answer only if you’re sure.

IPMAT Verbal Ability Preparation Tips

IPMAT verbal ability preparation tips that every student should practice for the IPMAT exam 2027 are listed below:

  • Reading comprehension is the topic with the highest weightage; therefore, it should be practiced well. 

  • For the vocabulary section, try reading newspapers and magazines and learning 10-15 new words daily.

  • Learn each grammar rule every day and solve 10-15 related questions to practice for the grammar section. 

  • For the reasoning section, practice para jumbles, para completion, sentence rearrangement, etc. 

Other than these, IPMAT 2027 exam aspirants are suggested to cover high-weightage topics, understand the exam format properly, and dedicate a minimum of 3-4 hours daily to practice well for the examination. Studying through online and offline study materials, including related books, also helps, and solving as many IPMAT mock tests as possible is also a key IPMAT preparation method.
