IIT Ropar Takes Cyber-Physical Systems Training to Northeast India

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar's iHub-AWaDH, an initiative under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has partnered with the Centre for Computers and Communication Technology (CCCT), Chisopani, Sikkim established the AWaDH CPS Lab. This state-of-the-art facility aims to deliver quality education, foster innovation, and enhance technical skills among students.

The first-of-its-kind AWaDH CPS Lab in Northeast India was inaugurated at CCCT Chisopani. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Sarsij Saurabh, General Manager, BSNL Sikkim, alongside Dr. Suman Kumar, Associate Professor, IIT Ropar; Dr. Radhika Trikha, Chief Executive Manager, AWaDH; M. Ravi Kumar (IFS, Director, MSME); L. D. Sharma, Chief Education Officer, Soreng; Samdup Bhutia, Director of Skill Development; Gyan Prasad Sharma, Chief Education Officer, Namchi; and Arun Tamanj, Associate Director, SDD.

This initiative is designed to empower young graduates, postgraduates, researchers, faculty, and startups to delve into the realm of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and incorporate these interventions into their daily activities. The event also included a guided tour of the facility led by Project Manager Deshraj Dhiman and the technical team. The AWaDH CPS Lab is envisioned as a hub for education, research, prototyping, testing, and collaboration, aiming to advance skill development and innovation in the region.

Lab Features and Impact

The lab is equipped with advanced IoT kits developed by IIT Ropar, offering 24/7 plug-and-play modules for hands-on experimentation and exploration of the IoT ecosystem. It is envisioned as the foundation for establishing an AWaDH Replica in Northeast India, supporting R&D, education, startup incubation, and joint consultancy and advisory projects.

The state-of-the-art lab boasts cutting-edge resources, including Voltera V-One, Gateway, BLE Development Kit, BLE Node, Low Power Camera Module, Air Sense, Weather Pro, AI & ML workstations developed by Terafac Technologies Pvt. Ltd., and a variety of sensors for monitoring environmental activities. Importantly, the lab will integrate Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) into the course curriculum at the Centre for Computers and Communication Technology (CCCT), Chisopani, Sikkim, serving as a regional hub for CPS training and skill development.
