IIT JAM Exam Analysis 2025: Check Subject-wise JAM Paper Analysis (Slot 1 & 2), Difficulty Level, Weightage

As IIT Delhi was the examination conducting body of the JAM 2025 exam, candidates go through the following analysis on the overall exam difficulty level is on a moderate level. Conceptual questions were asked in the exam where the candidate's analytical and abstract thinking of the applied subject was put to the test.

IIT JAM 2025 Chemistry Subject Analysis

The table below brings the structure of the IIT JAM 2026 exam.

The negative marking scheme is as follows:

Section A: For each wrong answer to a one-mark question, 1/3 mark will be deducted. On the other hand, for each wrong answer to two-mark questions, 2/3 marks will be deducted. There is no negative marking for any questions left unanswered.

Section B: There is no negative marking in this section. Also, there is no partial marking provision in this section.

Section C: There is no negative marking in this section, as well.

It is expected that the pattern and difficulty level of the exam will be similar to last year. Candidates who appeared in the IIT JAM 2024 Exam for 7 MSc courses found the exam moderate. Questions were designed in such a manner to test their analytical and practical approach of the concerned subject. Maximum number of candidates who have appeared in the IIT JAM 2024 exam had their first attempt in the examination. Being their first attempt, the difficulty level of the IIT JAM 2024 exam was found to be moderate easy.

IIT JAM Shift 1 Analysis

Mayank Shukla: The overall difficulty level of IIT JAM 24 Mathematics subject was found to be moderate. The topics which were found to lengthy were Group Theory and Integral Calculus. Most of the questions came from the subject group theory.

Memory Based Questions: Exception and ranges between the sn in the group theory.

Kushal: Appeared for IIT JAM 2024 Mathematics subject. The overall exam difficulty level was found be higher than the previous year. Most of the questions body found to be lengthy and were not one-liners or directly topic-based. More of an analytical approach was needed to answer the questions. Applied mathematics questions were asked more. Group theory subject questions were more frequently asked. IIT JAM 2024 Cut off for Mathematics will be around 20-25.

Tanu: JAM 2024 exam difficulty level was easy to moderate for Mathematics subject. Differential Equation topics were asked in the examination. JAM 2024 Mathematics cut off expected to be in the range of 30-40.

Pragati: Moderate-level questions were asked from differential equations in JAM 2024 Mathematics exam. Linear transformation and liner algebra questions were also asked. The mathematics question paper was lengthy

IIT JAM 2024 Mathematics Exam Analysis

1. Paper was found to be moderately tough.
2. Numerical Answer Type (NAT) found to be very difficult by most of the IIT JAM 2024 Mathematics candidates.
3. MCQ questions that were asked in the section A and section B were also found to be very difficult to answer. More tricky types questions were asked.
4. MSQ section was doable.

IIT JAM Mathematics detailed exam analysis: Section wise

Section A: 5-6 questions were asked as straightforward MCQ questions.

Geometry and Topology (GT):

1. Order> or equal to 6.

Ordinary Differential Equation:

1. Group of order 39 has exactly one sub group of order 3 and 13. G cannot be boolean as 13 has element of order.
2. Bernoulli Theorem.
3. U(8)= U(12)- isomorphisim

Section A: Moderate

Chemistry: According to the students the IIT JAM 2024 Chemistry Question Paper was comparatively lengthy. The exam can be categorised as Moderate to Difficult. According to the students who appeared in the exam, the good attempts for the IIT JAM 2024 Chemistry Question Paper can be considered as 25-30 questions with 90% accuracy. The IIT JAM Chemistry expected cutoff this year might be in between 25 to 30 marks according to some coaching institutes.

Khushi: IIT JAM 2024 Biotechnology exam difficulty level was moderate. In Biology questions from Immunology, Genetics, Recombinant DNA Technology topics were asked. In sections, i.e., NAT, both from physics and mathematics questions were asked. Section A and B was comparatively easy than Section C.

Sudarshan: IIT JAM Economics subject exam difficulty level was easier than last year. Some direct questions were asked from liquidity preference money supply and few were asked from consumer and supplier chain product.

Economics: The exam difficulty level as compared from previous year was easy, however, the questions came this year were quite lengthy. NAT type questions took longer time to solve. In macroeconomics, ISLM had the maximum weightage and many questions were there on matrices. The IIT JAM 2024 Economics cut off will be higher than last year cut off.

Mathematical Statistics: The Mathematical Statistics paper was of moderate to tough level of difficulty. The questions were on the expected lines and the topics of questions were  Probability Theory, Statistical Theory, and Numericals, among others.

Memory Based Questions: Two questions were on producer and consumer surplus graph (standard supply demand graph). Candidates were need to find the value of the surplus and change in the surplus.

IIT JAM 2024 Shift 2 Student reactions and Exam Analysis

 

Slot 1 of the IIT JAM 2023 was conducted for three subjects, Chemistry, Mathematics and Geology. The subject-wise analysis and student reactions are given below.

Chemistry: The difficulty level of the Chemistry section was considered to be easy to moderate. The questions were on the expected lines. The majority of the questions appeared from the topics of Atoms & Molecules, Analytical Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, etc. Some of the questions were lengthy and calculation intensive in nature.

Mathematics: The Mathematics paper was of moderate to tough difficulty level. The topics from which maximum questions were asked included Linear Algebra, Sequence and Series, Order and Rieman among others. 

Geology: The Geology subject was also of easy to moderate difficulty level. The questions were theory-based. While some questions were easy and direct, few were tricky and time-consuming. The topics included Applied Geology, Structural Geology, Geomorphology, etc. 

Slot 2 or the afternoon slot was conducted for four subjects, Physics, Biotechnology, Mathematical Statistics and Economics. The subject-wise analysis is given below. 

Physics: The difficulty level of Physics was moderate. Candidates found the exam to be on the expected lines. The majority of the questions were from Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electrostatics, Electromagnetic, Numerical Physics and others. The questions focussed on concepts and a few questions were calculation intensive. 

Biotechnology: The Biotechnology paper was also of moderate to tough difficulty level. A few questions were direct and easy to answer. Molecular Biology and Cell Biology had the maximum number of questions.

Economics: The Economics section had questions on Macro Economics, Micro Economics, Statistics and Mathematics. The difficulty level of this subject was easy to moderate.
