The negative marking scheme is as follows:
Section A: For each wrong answer to a one-mark question, 1/3 mark will be deducted. On the other hand, for each wrong answer to two-mark questions, 2/3 marks will be deducted. There is no negative marking for any questions left unanswered.
Section B: There is no negative marking in this section. Also, there is no partial marking provision in this section.
Section C: There is no negative marking in this section, as well.

IIT JAM 2024 Shift 1 Exam Analysis
Candidates who appeared in the IIT JAM 2024 Exam for 7 MSc courses found the exam moderate. Questions were designed in such a manner to test their analytical and practical approach of the concerned subject. Maximum number of candidates who have appeared in the IIT JAM 2024 exam had their first attempt in the examination. Mayank Shukla: The overall difficulty level of IIT JAM 24 Mathematics subject was found to be moderate. The topics which were found to lengthy were Group Theory and Integral Calculus. Most of the questions came from the subject group theory.

IIT JAM 2023 Analysis - Slot 1
Slot 1 of the IIT JAM 2023 was conducted for three subjects, Chemistry, Mathematics and Geology. The subject-wise analysis and student reactions are given below.
Chemistry: The difficulty level of the Chemistry section was considered to be easy to moderate. The questions were on the expected lines. The majority of the questions appeared from the topics of Atoms & Molecules, Analytical Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, etc. Some of the questions were lengthy and calculation intensive in nature.
Mathematics: The Mathematics paper was of moderate to tough difficulty level. The topics from which maximum questions were asked included Linear Algebra, Sequence and Series, Order and Rieman among others.
Geology: The Geology subject was also of easy to moderate difficulty level. The questions were theory-based. While some questions were easy and direct, few were tricky and time-consuming. The topics included Applied Geology, Structural Geology, Geomorphology, etc.

Physics: The difficulty level of Physics was moderate. Candidates found the exam to be on the expected lines. The majority of the questions were from Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electrostatics, Electromagnetic, Numerical Physics and others.
