I belong to a business family and my area of interest lies in business. So rather than going for medicine or engineering, I chose to pursue Commerce stream in my XI and XII and did my graduation in Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA) from Amrita School of Arts and Sciences, Kollam, Kerala.
The college selection was based on my cousin’s recommendation who did his bachelors from this college. He suggested about this college and the course that they have good faculty and proper educational facilities with industrial visits, projects, social work programs, internship, student exchange programs etc.
Explore colleges based on MAT
I did my BBA from Amrita School of Arts and Sciences so I planned to do my MBA also from Amrita University. My current college is a deemed university and a reputed college so I decided to study here only and I can score well here. Therefore, I applied only to Amrita School of Business because it’s a well-known and reputed institution. MBA is needed to get a good job for career growth. BBA gave me a base to learn more about business management so it really provided a great support.
My college provides us with good placement opportunities so that majority of the students get placed through it. And my college offers specialization in Finance, Marketing, Business Analytics, Production and Operations, and Human Resources. I am planning to choose Finance as my major and marketing as minor subject.
How I cracked college admission
I appeared only for the MAT entrance exam for MBA where we need a 50 percentile to be eligible to apply for college admission and after that I had to only clear the interview conducted by Amrita School of Business (ASB).
I didn’t attend any coaching classes. My sister was my mentor and she taught me to prepare for the entrance exam. My sister went for CAT coaching and she helped me a lot. I am weak in Quant so my sister carefully looked into this weak area. I started my preparation one month before the exam. I felt happy when I got the needed MAT score for my college admission that I did something well with the support of almighty and my sister. I thought of writing the CAT exam but it would have been an utter waste writing CAT exam as it requires at least 3 months of proper coaching.
What I gained from my college experience
I manage to work and attend college as we have very helpful faculty. They encourage us to participate in several other management fests so it can add to our exposure and growth. Being an Amritian, I feel different and unique compared to students from other colleges because what we do is much superior as compared to students from several other colleges because we have presentations on a daily basis, case study discussions etc, and the students of other colleges lack in this. The learnings from my college are really useful for me.
Time management tips
Carry a schedule and record all your thoughts, conversations and activities for a week. This will help you understand how much you can get done during the course of a day and where are your precious moments going. You'll see how much time is actually spent producing results and how much time is wasted on unproductive thoughts, conversations and actions.
Any activity or conversation that's important to your success should have a time assigned to it. To-do lists get longer and longer to the point where they're unworkable. Appointment books work. Schedule appointments with yourself and create time blocks for high-priority thoughts, conversations, and actions. Schedule when they will begin and end. Have the discipline to keep these appointments.
My college is located in a remote area with not much places to visit around and with the busy schedule of college, it doesn’t free up any time to go either. Joining ASB has changed me into a person who can adjust with any situation. ASB focuses on having not just education but education for life.

There is no minimum passing marks in MAT. Anybody scoring more than 0 marks is eligible for admission. However, since MAT admission is cut off based, merely passing the exam will not ensure selection.
