Shiksha.com had a chance to get in touch with JEE Advanced 2024 Topper, Koduru Tejeswar and learn about his journey towards this success. Let's have a look at his insights:
JEE Advanced 2024 Topper Interview: Koduru Tejeswar, AIl India Rank 8
Shiksha: Tell us about yourself!
Koduru Tejeswar: I am Tejeswar a student with the tag of achieving all India rank 8 in JEE Advanced 2024 examination. I joined FIITJEE in class 6, though my real JEE preparation started in class 9. I always stay indebted to my mentors and family for their guidance and for supporting me throughout my JEE Advanced preparation.
Shiksha: How was your day on June 9 when IIT Madras announced the result, what was yours and your family’s reaction?
Koduru Tejeswar: Intrinsically I am a very calm person. Moreover, I was very confident even before the result that I would achieve something great. I was very happy to get to know about the result. My family was overwhelmed with excitement that I got a single-digit rank.
Shiksha: What motivated you to pursue engineering and thus appear for JEE Advanced 2024?
Koduru Tejeswar: I have a lot of curiosity and most of the things we see in our day-to-day life are the outcome of an art known as science. This naturally increased my interest in the branch of STEM. I wasn’t very clear about my goals. I moved on and found out that I was very good at Math, so I pursued Math and Sciences.
Shiksha: Can you walk us through your study routine and JEE Advanced 2024 preparation strategies?
Koduru Tejeswar: Different people have different ways of learning. My way was through solving questions, as they kept me thinking and gave me a crystal clear picture of what I learnt through books and my mentors. This improved my knowledge about something. Also, self-study helped a lot. There were many instances where I felt like there were too many questions. At those times I just took a break for some time and relaxed and then got back to work with different subjects. I never prefer having a pre-planned schedule cause most of the time I end up not following it I just do what I feel that instant.
Shiksha: Can you share any strategies for balancing exam preparation with other commitments or responsibilities like board exams and school?
Koduru Tejeswar: I don’t think what you do in both is much different. It’s the same subjects and the same chapters you don’t need to prepare separately for them only just make sure you give enough time to both.

Shiksha: How did you maintain focus and discipline throughout your preparation period?
Koduru Tejeswar: I prefer to study in a calm environment and always try to keep myself busy with some kind of work, this helped me stabilise my mind and thoughts towards the work I am doing by ignoring what’s happening around me. Thus, I was able to maintain my focus levels throughout my preparation.
Shiksha: Were there any specific challenges you encountered during your preparation? How did you overcome them?
Koduru Tejeswar: One of the most common challenges that students face during their preparation is “too much study” and “pressure to perform”. But I found none at FIITJEE. I always had enough time to take breaks and relax my mind and was allowed to postpone my work when I felt I was done with the day. The mentors never asked students why there was no improvement in their performance or so. They just took care of the fact that the mistakes were revisited by us, and the test was analysed properly by ourselves. Also, other minor challenges were immediately resolved by the experienced mentor.
Shiksha: How did you manage stress and pressure during the lead-up to the exam?
Koduru Tejeswar: You feel stressed and pressured only when you are worried about our result. It’s not part of the student to think about the result. What I always thought was “I will have a set of questions in front of me and I have to solve them”, whether it is right or wrong is something that you should not worry about. The only thing is, you should be giving the best.
Shiksha: Were there any resources or study materials that you found particularly helpful for JEE Advanced?
Koduru Tejeswar: The effective and excellent resource that helped me throughout was the running notes given by our mentors. Later I read different JEE Advanced books and found that my running notes were just a compilation of all the important points in such books.
Shiksha: Which IIT and course are you pursuing?
Koduru Tejeswar: I am planning on pursuing computer science at IIT Bombay this is a young branch of engineering with a lot of new things to learn and develop
Shiksha: How did you approach time management during the exam day itself?
Koduru Tejeswar: This task was made a lot easier on exam day cause not many of the questions in JEE Advanced 2024 were challenging giving me ample amount of time left during the examination to come back revisit and check my answers. We were already prepared to face any kind of paper due to the rarity of mock tests we have gone through including the AITS.
Shiksha: What role did practice tests or mock exams play in your IIT JEE preparation?
Koduru Tejeswar: JEE Advanced mock tests and practice tests are the most crucial part of the preparation. Using them perfectly, you can get a real feel of the examination. They prepare us for any kind of situation that you may face during real examination. They let you know how good you are and analyse what it takes to be the best. Especially, the All India test series shows you what true competition on the national scale is like. After all this, the final exam just feels like another test to take.
Practice tests and mock exams are the most crucial part of any preparation. FIITJEE conducted regular week-wise exams and the frequency was higher at the end. The discussions held by the FIITJEE faculty after the exam were helpful for me to analyse myself better after the exam. Whenever I had an issue during an examination regarding time, toughness, or morale I used to take guidance from FIITJEE mentors.
Shiksha: How did you stay motivated during times of self-doubt or setbacks?
Koduru Tejeswar: Staying motivated is never a problem when one likes what one does. I was motivated towards study rather the preparation. Later was just a result. My parent's belief in me reinforced my motivation whenever I saw setbacks regarding my preparation. I took the guidance from the mentors to overcome them.
When you learn with interest you always stay motivated towards studies. To develop that I used to take a glance at a few topics that might be of the boundaries but are interesting. Apart from this the mentors at FIITJEE regularly motivated us towards the goals. My parents played an important role in always keep motivated whenever I saw setbacks I used to approach my mentor and under their guidance overcome the problems.
Shiksha: How did you handle difficult or unfamiliar questions during the JEE Advanced exam?
Koduru Tejeswar: Questions are questions whether they are difficult or easy spending enough time on each question is the key.
Shiksha: Any tips for the future aspirants of the JEE Advanced?
Koduru Tejeswar: My prime suggestion is to have confidence and faith in oneself and always look for areas where you can learn to improve. Tests are crucial and having a proper analysis of the tests always helps. Don’t take long gaps. Make sure your mind is on preparation most of the time. Mentors always have solutions to problems you mostly face, immediately seek their help whenever required. Finally, never let setbacks bring you down, always keep your confidence and motivation levels high.

As per the analysis of the previous year data, the candidates belonging to general category must aim to score around 180 marks out of 360 to qualify the exam. 180+ marks will be a safe zone and will ensure that you pass the exam for IIT admissions. However, note that this marks will not get you a go
