Difference Between CLAT and AILET Syllabus is a common question for many law students who are preparing for both exams simultaneously. Students who wants to get admission into National Law Universities gets confused between AILET and CLAT syllabus, since both national level entrance exams are for admission into five year law courses in National Law Universities.
However, syllabus of both exams are different in terms of subjects covered and topic wise weightage. CLAT syllabus is accepted for admission to 24 NLUs, while AILET syllabus is prepared only for admission to NLU Delhi. CLAT syllabus is comprehensive and includes 5 subjects but AILET syllabus is limited to just 3 subjects, with more focus on Logical Reasoning.
Understanding difference between CLAT and AILET syllabus helps students modify their preparation strategy. As per latest exam pattern, both law entrance exams have changed their structure
- CLAT syllabus is based on English, General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Elementary Mathematics, Legal Aptitude and Reasoning and Logical Reasoning.
- Consortium of NLUs reduced number of CLAT questions to 120 from earlier 150, which has also changed subject wise weightage of CLAT syllabus.
- AILET syllabus has also been changed because NLU Delhi has removed Elementary Mathematics and Legal Aptitude sections completely from AILET question paper.

No, the Consortium has not made any changes to the CLAT Syllabus for 2027 exam. It further clarified that the exam pattern has also not been modified this year.

Which Exam is Tougher to Prepare?
Before appearing for any of exams, candidates want to know which exam syllabus is tougher to prepare. So, there is not a single answer to this, it depends because candidates who are weak in Mathematics and core legal concepts can think AILET syllabus is easier to prepare, since Quantitative Techniques and separate constitution knowledge is not tested at all.
Candidates should note also that AILET syllabus demands much stronger command over Logical Reasoning and English, since these two subjects alone make up nearly 80 percent of AILET paper.
CLAT syllabus, on other hand, is more balanced across 5 subjects, so candidates need an all-round preparation strategy.
In short, CLAT syllabus needs broader preparation across more subjects but AILET syllabus needs easy preparation of few subjects.
