Eligibility Criteria for AILET 2022

AILET 2026 Eligibility Criteria

NLU Delhi is accepting applications for AILET 2026 for admission to both BALLB and LLM courses. The examination cell earlier published the revised AILET notification, at nationallawuniversitydelhi.in. The registration for AILET 2026 entrance exam commenced from August 07, 2025. Through AILET 2026, candidates will be able to apply for admission to BA LLB (Hons) and LLM courses offered by the National Law University, Delhi. Only those candidates who meet the AILET 2026 eligibility criteria for their preferred course can fill out the form. If they fail to do so, their candidature for AILET 2026 will be rejected.

Aspirants can find course-wise eligibility details in this article. The eligibility criteria includes qualifying exam details, minimum mark requirements, and category reservation details. 

Q:   How can I apply for AILET 2026?
A:

To apply for AILET 2026, candidates will have to visit the National Law University Delhi website. Use the active email address to register. Login again to upload the necessary documents and enter the required details.

Q:   Can I appear for AILET if I forget to carry my photo ID?
A:

No, candidates were not allowed to appear for the examination without a valid photo ID. Candidates were advised to keep the following three things ready with them, a day before the examination; a valid photo ID proof, AILET admit card 2026, and a recent passport-sized photograph. These were the mandatory documents to be produced during entry to the AILET exam centre. The valid photo identity card which would be allowed at the AILET 2026 exam centre include Aadhaar card/ Driving Licence/ PAN Card/ Passport/ Voter Id. The admit card should also have the passport and postcard-sized photographs pasted on it.

Q:   How many city preferences can a candidate submit while selecting AILET center?
A:

Candidates can submit maximum 3 preferences for AILET centre. Choosing preference for exam centre is mandatory to submit AILET application. Candidates will get to know about allotment of exact centre once the admit card is released. The NLU Delhi releases admit card online comprising crucial details about exam including name and address of AILET centre. The admit card can be downloaded from the official website after its release. To download AILET admit card, candidates need application ID, password, and Exam Unique Code (EUC).

Since, NLU Delhi conducts its own entrance exam and does not accept CLAT exam scores , the eligibility criteria for its law courses are as prescribed here. AILET eligibility criteria 2026 are mandatory not only for filling up the AILET 2026 application form, but also for securing a seat during the counseling process. The exam authority verifies all the documents pertaining to the AILET 2026 eligibility criteria for BA LLB, LLM  in Law courses. 

Candidates applying for undergraduate or postgraduate course, they need to fulfill the common eligibility criteria for the AILET exam as under: 

  • Candidates should have obtained the minimum qualifying marks and certificate as relevant for the courses.
  • If candidates are applying under a reserved category, then they should have a certificate issued by the competent authority stating the same. 
  • If candidates belong to PwD category then a medical certificate issued by a medical authority stating 40 per cent or more disability should be available to be eligible under PwD category.

 AILET Eligibility Criteria 2026 for BA LLB course

The eligibility criteria for AILET BA LLB course as mentioned by NLU Delhi is, “Senior Secondary School Examination (10+2 system) or an equivalent examination with 45% marks (40% in case of SC/ST/Persons with Disabilities). Candidates appearing for the 12th standard annual examination are eligible to apply.” , this means, 

Q:   When is AILET merit list released?
A:

The AILET merit list is released once the counselling begins. NLU Delhi releases the merit list as per the seats and vacancies. The first merit list is released in the last week of December or first week of January. The merit list notification can be checked at the NLU Delhi official website. 

Q:   Does NLU accepts AILET?
A:

NLU Delhi provides admission to its BA LLB and LLM programme based on the AILET 2026 scores. However, all other NLUs in the country accept CLAT scores for providing admission to their courses. Candidates can sit for both the entrance exams to expand their scope of admission.

Q:   How can I contact the AILET exam authority?
A:

Candidates will be able to contact the AILET exam authority through the phone. The contact number is 011-40787555. There is no official email to connect with the exam authority on the AILET exam website. Thus, candidates need to use this phone number only for the exam-related queries.

  • A candidates must have passed class 12 examination or equivalent examination from a state board/ national board of education - ICSE/ CBSE/ CISCE
  • The candidates must have obtained 45% of total scores in Class 12 examination, if they belong to General or OBC categories
  • Those belonging to SC, ST or PwD categories can claim 5% relaxation in minimum qualifying marks if they submit the relevant documents as a proof. If they have 40% or above scores then they are eligible for AILET 2026.
  • There is no relaxation in minimum marks for candidates belonging to any other categories other than SC, ST, and PwD. 

If the candidates are appearing for their Class 12 examinations, at the time of filling AILET 2026 application form, then they can mention it, and state that result is awaited. Their eligibility will be ascertained at the time of counselling, on showing the documents for qualifying Class 12 exams.

AILET 2026 BA LLB Reservation

NLU Delhi reserves a fixed number of seats for specific categories in the BA LLB programe through the AILET exam. Check out the reservation criteria for AILET 2026 BA LLB course below:

AILET BA LLB Eligibility Criteria 2026 for Exemption

Only candidates belonging to OCI/PIO/Foreign Nationals category are exempted to appear in AILET exam only if they secure 65% marks in Class 12 or equivalent examination. Other than this, no candidate will be exempted from AILET 2026 for admission to any law course offered at the law university. 

AILET 2026 Eligibility Criteria: BCom LLB

The eligibility criteria for BCom LLB course offered through AILET 2026 are mentioned below:

Qualification
  • Candidates should have completed Class (10+2). 
  • Candidates appearing in Class 12 can also apply for AILET 2025 BCom LLB exam. They will need to submit a copy of their final marksheet for AILET 2025 counselling. 
Minimum Marks
  • General/OBC category candidates need a minimum of 45% to apply for AILET 2025. 
  • The minimum qualifying marks for SC/ST and PwD category candidates is 40%. 
Age Limit
  • NLU has not specified age limit to apply for AILET BCom LLB exam. 

AILET Eligibility Criteria 2026 for LLM course

Candidates seeking admission to LLM course at NLU Delhi need to fulfill the following AILET eligibility criteria as given below: 

Candidates who have obtained an “LL.B. or an equivalent law degree with 50% marks (45% in case of SC/ST/ Persons with Disabilities). Candidates appearing for final year LL.B. annual examination are also eligible to apply”, this means: 

  • Candidates should have obtained a three-year or five-year LLB degree or equivalent law degree certificate from a recognised university. 
  • They should have secured at least 50% marks in the overall degree examinations
  • Those belonging to SC/ST/PwD category have been granted relaxation of 5% marks i.e. they should have 45% marks in the degree examination.

AILET LLM Eligibility Criteria 2026 for Exemption

Candidates belonging to Foreing Nationals/ OCI/PIO category are exempted from appearing in AILET 2026. However, they need to fulfill academic eligibility criteria for AILET 2026 to secure an LLM seat.

National Law University (NLU) Delhi has released the answer keys for the AILET 2026 LLM exam on December 14, after the exam. The objections window is open till December 16, 12 PM. After receiving the objection, the final AILET 2026 answer key will be published.

The AILET Provisional Answer Key PDF has been released on the NLU Delhi website. The AILET Answer Key 2026 is released in two phases. First AILET Provisional Answer Key and then the Final Answer Key.
