Commonly asked questions
The CLAT 2027 UG syllabus includes five subjects: English Language, Current Affairs & GK, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques. The exam will be for 120 MCQs. Candidates will get 2 hours to complete the exam.
The CLAT Syllabus is published by the Consortium. The syllabus has been announced. Candidates who are preparing for the exam must note that there are no changes made in the syllabus so far. Candidates can check the syllabus by visiting the official website. You can only download the PDF from website.
While it is not impossible, it is a really challenging task. To score well, you must start preparing for CLAT at least six months before. It is very important to score well if you are looking forward to getting into good NLU. For top 10 NLU, you at least need to score between 100 to 105 as per past trends.
For the CLAT 2027 Quantitative Techniques section, candidates must focus on the 10th-grade data interpretation and arithmetic.
CLAT 2027 Preparation Strategy by Experts
General Knowledge (GK) and Current Affairs section of CLAT does not have a fixed syllabus. There is also no single book or study material that can help you prepare for every question. Even most prepared candidates may not be able to answer all questions correctly. So, key to scoring well is to stay updated with current events and develop strong general awareness over time.
During CLAT preparation, cover important national and international awards in sports, science, literature, and arts. Learn about major United Nations (UN) organisations, their roles, and headquarters. You should also have a basic understanding of Indian history, geography, the Constitution, and the judicial system. Make it a habit to read newspapers and news sources regularly. Reading widely will help you connect facts, improve your understanding of different topics, and answer questions using logic, even when you are unsure of the exact answer.
Writing Mock Tests – You should plan to write a few mock tests. However, aim to finish at least 70 per cent to 80 per cent of the syllabus before starting the mocks. That’s the only way that you will receive any benefit from writing the test. Look for a good mock test series, and aim to write at least 6-8 CLAT previous years papers before the actual exam. Reproduce the exam conditions as much as possible – including the time limit and turning your phone off to avoid distractions!
Question Selection – It is essential to remember that all questions carry equal marks and there are no sectional cutoffs in CLAT! So feel free to start from any section you are comfortable with, and if a question is taking too much time skip it without prejudice.
Negative Marking – CLAT has 1/ -0.25 negative marking. So you get 1 marks for every correct answer and -0.25 marks for every wrong answer. You get 0 marks for any unattempted questions. This means there is a penalty for uneducated guessing. My advice to you – guess, but carefully. It makes sense to guess only if you can eliminate at least 2 of the choices in the question. So keep that in mind while taking a guess.
English – Being strong in Reading Comprehension and basic grammar will take you a long way in the English section. Remember to also practice Para jumbles, CLAT has traditionally favoured them.

These strategies are meant to be a guide to assist you in your preparation for CLAT. If you can incorporate all of these into your preparation, I am confident you will see a definite boost in your scores. All the best!

CLAT does not publish a fixed count for Number System questions. The UG exam stays largely passage-based. This topic supports calculation inside Quantitative Techniques passages. It does not appear as standalone questions.

Number System questions cover many types. These include basic property checks, combined divisibility conditions, HCF and LCM problems, remainder patterns and multi condition reasoning. They test calculation speed and accuracy.

There is no single fixed book for this topic. Students often use standard Class 10 level maths books. Combine these with regular practice sets and previous year papers to build accuracy.

Students should start early. Practice Number System alongside other Quantitative Techniques topics. Strong basics make combined divisibility and multi condition questions easier later.

Number System is not a separate scored CLAT topic. But the calculation skills help with passage-based Quantitative Techniques questions. Skipping it fully is not wise. Most passages need quick, accurate number work.
