Talking about his exceptional score in CAT 2014 Maheedhar very candidly confessed that “I was expecting a good score but not 100 percentile”.

Shiksha.com reporters are working tirelessly to get in touch with more CAT 2014 toppers. Some of 100 percentilers we found and interviewed include – Anuraag Reddy, Neha Manglik, Aashish Chiller, Harshveer Jain, Vibhu Gupta and Rajesh Balasubramanian.

Mentioned below is an exclusive interview Shiksha had with CAT 2014 topper Maheedhar Maram.

Q. Is this your first attempt?

A.

Yes, this is my first attempt.

Q. What is the minimum time-frame needed to prepare well for CAT? How long did you prepare for it?

A.

Around 3-4 months. I also prepared for approximately the same time.

Q. Did you have a study plan during CAT preparation?

A.

No, I did not follow any routine or study plan. I used to study whenever I felt like studying, which used to be approximately two to three hours in a day.

Q. What did you do to improve your weak areas?

A.

I was very strong in Quant, even in my intermediate and at the time of schooling. So, I was pretty confident in that sphere. I was only worried about the verbal ability section. I was confident about the logical reasoning section, so only the verbal ability section was my weak spot.

I tried to improve my vocabulary by watching movies and reading books and newspapers. I used to write down words and their synonyms and so on. Doing such exercises helped me improve my confidence and ultimately led to me scoring more marks.

Q. Did you join any coaching institute?

A.

I joined TIME institute for coaching. Around a year back, I started taking their regular course but later I dropped that and didn’t even take any mock tests.

Q. Is it necessary to join a coaching institute?

A.

Coaching institutes help lead students onto the right path. Students can prepare on their own too but it is a good approach to have guidance from a coaching institute.

Q. What were your sectional scores in CAT 2014?

A.

My percentiles were 99.99 in both the sections. My total marks were 265.83.

Q. Tell us about your family.

A.

My father is a government engineer and my mother is a house wife. My brother is doing his BTech from IIT Bombay in Computer Science.

Q. Do you pursue any hobbies? Tell us about them.

A.

Playing cricket and chess is my favourite pass-time.

Q. Have you received any calls for admissions so far?

A.

Not yet.

Q. Which institute are you aiming for?

A.

I want to join IIM Ahmedabad. If I don’t get through to IIM Ahmedabad then I would consider joining IIM Bangalore.

Q. Do you have a placement offer in hand?

A.

I have an offer from Samsung Bangalore through my campus placement.

Q. Any tips for future CAT aspirants?

A.

I would recommend that candidate’s should remain confident during the exam and not get tensed. They should remain cool and focus on their strong points.

DTU and IIT delhi are both topmost universities available in India. The placements given to these university students are also good. The infra is quite good for both the universities, hence the comparison between them is not possible. In the end, it depends on students what is best for them.
